*edit: May I suggest a little add-on? When you post your guess, maybe you can give a little summary of reference points; i.e. why exactly you decided to put your money on the name you entered? Instead of working down the list in alphabetical order...

 Freda, I wish my garden was in a place where I could "keep" one!

Mashagadzi it is. I deliberately picked a pic showing him from a different angle, simply to prove my point that the ivory tells you a lot, but not everything. Especially when trying to ID from a photo.

Here's the undoctored pic plus another one from the same series. Taken December 2004 in riverbed near Shingwedzi camp.

you're pretty good at this :)

Something is not right about the photo tho'... have you by chance mirrored the image?? Thus changing reference points that are supposed to be on the left side, to ref points on the right?? :?

Freda, might he be an unnamed tusker? Especially if he is a bit camera shy! Have you entered him in the emerging tuskers competition?

Happy 2008!

You have me stumped Freda ..

But looking at the size of the ellie .. he either seems fat or he is one big ellie ..

I'm very keen to know who this one is and if he has been id ...

I'm going to make a few enquiries .. man ... It would be great to have a new tusker in that area

It's sooooo exciting!!!

Hi Freda,

I've received feedback and it's VERY exciting news. This is a new "emerging tusker" and have not yet been identified. Although they cannot see the tusks, the prominent "notch" in the left ear will definetly help in naming the tusker. We must hope that somebody else out there also took some pics of him and will send it in for the "Big Tuskers Competition".

I definetly recommend you enter it for the Big Tuskers Competition (don't hesitate to mail or pm me if you need help).

THANK YOU soo much for sharing this with us. And sorry we could not help with a name (yet ... )

I don't know if this is quiz is somewhere else on a thread, so redirect me if this has been done before.

I've always been interested in the great Tuskers - past, present and emerging...

So let's start - who's this fellow?

That could be TSHOKWANE then , however I thought Tshokwane's right tusk was longer than the left so the photo is not conclusive .

Tshokwane's right tusk was longer than the left (both were actually broken at different places shorlty before his death) and he also died in 1998 - but he's not the one in the pic.

The mystery Tusker's distinguishing caracter is in his left ear - and it can be seen clearly in the pic.
