Who was the parrot that recently excited the scientific world on bird behaviour, and what indeed was his impact?

Alex the African grey is the only one that pops into my brain. He had cognitive thoughts that weren't previously proven that parrots had. He had never seen a green key before but he knew the colour green and what shape a key was and therefore could make the jump to a green key and pick it out when asked....

Give me 3 example of birds in South Africa that are considered facultative co-operative breeders - in other words they only breed together when the environment conditions are unstable?

Hi Philip!
The southern ground hornbill and sociable weavers are more obligate cooperative breeders.. They almost always live in a group. Same with the babblers...

Phokojwe...
Karoo scrub robin
Green wood hoopoe... :hmz: I think they are more obligate cooperative vs facultative....

So we still need 2 more birds that breed in groups only when the benefits of breeding in a group are greater than breeding alone....

Hi Guys! Sorry about being absent from the quizzes!!!

Clues to more 3 more facultative cooperative breeders.

1. the messiest massive nest builders....

2. they're a dime a dozen in the arid parks on the fence posts and telephone wires and are also "cooperative' opportunists with some mammal predators...

3. Males are vividly shiny and the females streaked and dull and their call is almost like a nail scratching on a chalkboard....

Enjoy!

  :hmz: based on the clues I would have thought weavers..Sociable, Red-Billed... but it seems Philip already thought of that :hmz: :wall:
