Correct, Bishop!

I have often stopped either significantly ahead of or after these guys...they almost always return to the road, and are quite inquisitive!

Too close, and they won't!

And you won't spot them in the undergrowth!

Just my experience!

You're it!

:wall: Wasn't planning on being IT!! :slap:

Can't remember whether I've asked this before...

Looking at impala, their coats are almost always shining and neat, not scruffed up like some other antelope one often sees. What physical characteristic (i.e. not for example actions like grooming) makes this possible?

Some oil secreted?

Sure it's not that "teeth-grooming" thing? :hmz:

Nope. The teeth's to get parasites out, not comb the hair.

does it have anything to do with grooming, as they groom each other as well? :hmz: :hmz:

No grooming. Physical characteristic. To do with the hair itself.

So you're absolutely sure it's got nothing to do with the grooming!?

While we're waiting for another clue from Bishop, here's more about the dwarf mongoose theory!

True to form, SWNMNBM and I saw one dashing across the road on the S-114 last weekend!

(I could show a pic of the empty road...)

Then stopped 20 m or so before the spot and waited for 1 minute, and they started reappearing...

Then we moved right to where they were, and they emerged within a minute or so... :?

My apologies. Trying to do too many things, and not doing any of them well, really. :(

Yes RP, it has to do with the shape of the hairs.

That's about as much clue as I could give without giving the answer.

But I think that I need to give the answer so this quiz can move on. The hairs are triangle-shaped, thus basicaly fit right next to one another in a tight pattern, unlike many others where the hairs are round or oval in shape, thus leaving a lot of space in between.

Got this from Smithers, the real one, the BIG one - who has one they want to give to me, or sell at a reasonable price? I'm serious! - got it there after reading about it in MAN/Magnum. Been a while since I did, but when I go to the library with my daughter for her to get books, I walk to that shelf, take it off - it if HUGE! - and read through it. I really would like to get one.
