Once, a long-long time ago when dragons still roamed the earth, there was a hippopotamus family living in the land of Makebelieve in a pool in a winding river. For the hippopotamuses to get to their feeding grounds they had to cross seven bridges. One day Papa hippopotamus found that each bridge was guarded by a hippopotamusaurus – a fierce dragon that ate hippopotamuses and they insisted on being paid a toll fee in baby hippopotamuses before allowing the family to cross! If the Baby hippopotamuses did not get out of the pool every night to go to the feeding grounds they would starve to death! Papa hippopotamus called a meeting with all the hippopotamusauruses and negotiated that he will give each hippopotamusaurus half of the Baby hippopotamuses with him, providing that they in turn each give back one baby hippopotamus. They agreed and the hippopotamus family continued to travel their feeding route without loosing a single family member. What was Papa hippopotamus’s plan?

Rub the baby hippopotamuses with Amarula so the hippopotamusaurus would think they tasted Image

He takes two baby hippos at a time. That way, he gives half of them (ie.1) to each h'saurus and gets it straight back.

Not even a hippopotamusaurus would agree with that statement, gwendolen...

If you have a circular field that is 100 meters wide and you tie a hippo to one of the fence posts..how long does the rope have to be so that the hippo will only be able to eat exactly half of the field??????

This is serious math(so good luck)

Oof! That's not a brain teaser... it's a brain wrecker!! :x

I remember a farmer by the name of Hofmann (sp?) and a bull, dealing with the same math prob... ? And if my memory serves me well, the length of the rope cannot be calculated exactly but only approximately? I'll try and do some digging later, but if anyone else wants to have a go, do feel free. Math and I are not best buddies!
