A good guess but perhaps my clue was too vague. The pods fall from the tree in August thru October and elephants love picking them up off the ground whilst tripping over the tent pegs and scaring the inhabitants. Actually the pods also fall on the tent whilst sleeping... scaring the inhabitants once again.

A thicket of these trees 15km outside of Potgietersrust has been declared a national monument.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay. I have just returned from Kruger and experienced the recent floods in all their glory... Even got evacuated from Biyamiti and had to change my reservation from Talamati and Tamboti.

At Afsaal the scops owl is often in a grove of trees in front of the take aways. What trees are they ?
