Dear Shutterbug and others,

Think the biggest problem here is communication. Just saying restaurants are closed without saying what arrangements have been made from Sanparks side to accommodate their clients who are still paying full price and some having booked and planned well in advance is causing the panic.

Joep could you please explain what temporary arrangements have been made or can be expected, then Shutterbug and others could make a more informed decision.

Call me strange but after a very long overseas trip(always broken up by an overnight stay at the airport motel)I can't wait to shop at Woolies ,and pick up all the excellent meat and wine available at good prices at the pick and pay and then start braiing
But for a quick meal a roast chicken and some salad from the deli works well
Never had a problem with food spoiling, even in KTP where the electricity goes off at night

Its less than a week to go before the first restaurant is closed, does anyone know what the actual plan is as far as a restaurant alternative?

Does anyone know what food options we will have if we don't want to self cater? right now the Lower Sabie restaurant is closed, what are they offering in the way of food? We are leaving for Kruger in two weeks and need to know what to buy.

Is there any news regarding the food that will be available during closures???? I am going to be in the park during February and would be interested to know what will be available. Will there be any catering at all? Will the shops stock more food than usual?? thanks to any who can enlighten us

Well I have to say that I am pretty disappointed with how the whole restaurant closure is being handled, not only was I told after I had made my booking that the restaurants would be closed but now it it seems that nobody in SanParks can tell me what alternatives are available, I now have to go and buy cooler boxes, firewood and who knows what else for my 3 week visit, not very professional at all.... and we leave tomorrow.

Will the shops stock more food and more variety during February at the camps where the restaurants are closed in February? Will any other alternatives be available? I will only be at camps with no restaurants and need to start working out what to take with me. I do not braai and also fly so cannot take large stocks so I need to get organised as to what to buy in Phalaborwa. thanks for any clarity on the situation

We had lunch at Berg en Dal today, great service with a smile and a full menu of acceptable food. Lower Sabie on the other hand is a big mess, I know they are busy with the renovations but it all seems very disorganised and the alternative food choice is very poor.

All this is just beyond belief. One can only conclude that those in charge are absolutely clueless when it comes to running the hospitality side of things in Kruger.

I can remember the days when SANParks ran the shops. One would arrive at the shop in one of the big rest camps and find a handwritten sign on the door: Closed for stock taking. Looking through the window, one would see a dozen or more uniformed employees milling around with clipboards. More than enough staff, one would think, to get the job done in a few hours, but no: the shop was closed for three days. Three days! No commercial sense whatsoever, and no respect for the paying customers.

It is now February & I am still waiting for some sort of reply from management as to what is available during this month besides the usual fare in the shops. This has been asked a number of times by a number of people including myself. I am, unfortunately, staying at most of the camps where the restaurants are closed this month and REALLY would like some sort of indication from Management as to what,, if anything is being done. If nothing is being done then please be so kind as to inform us. Thanks.
