Meandering Mouse, we normally visit Kruger in July but last year we were very blessed and visited in Dec as well :D the lushness, greenery, abundance of game and bird life was very overwhelming, so overwhelming that we are going back this coming December   LOVE your photograph :gflower:

Tent Dweller, I think that it was taken on the S64, one of my favorite roads.

Moobox I promise you, some of our best sightings have been in December, also you have the added advantage of seeing all the young impala and other babies that have been born in November and even early December, they are so cute.

In December 2000 we were in Sirheni Bushveld Camp over the festive season until after the New Year of 2001 has started. If was great - the camp was quiet and peaceful, although fully booked, and we almost everyday saw the resident leopard that was there at that stage on to opposite river bank.

May December 2013 be very good to all visitors in Kruger

My best Kruger memories are in December, best time to visit the park for sure.
Added bonus is the extended game viewing times with gate opening and closing time. Camp gates open 4h30 as suppose to 5h30 for the entrance gates which gives you an hour head start on the day visitors.

:D :D  :D

Hi all

Please help:

My SO and I will be in Kruger for Christmas this year - and never been in KNP on christmas day itself before. We are planning a north to south trip over 2-3 weeks.   Accomodation is running out FAST so must book SOON! This is the question that would really help in planning:

Do you have any ideas/suggestions about which camp to be on Christmas day itself? Or any special activities? Or is it just 'business as usual' on Christmas day? Very happy to jsut treat it like any other day but would love to know if there is anything special?

Thank you in advance for your input! it would be greatly appreciated!!

Regards
Terri

Probably it will be what you make it, but it is a bit early for enterprising staff to plan for it.

Terri-Lee, Christmas Day in the Kruger is just business as usual, we spent last Christmas in Tamboti, we went for our usual early morning drive, opened our presents when we came back, had breakfast, went for a swim, had a nap, went for another drive then we had our Christmas braai (with all the trimmings), sat and relaxed and then went to bed. This Christmas we will be in Letaba most probably doing something very similar.

We have spent 2 consecutive Xmas's in Kruger.

As has been said above, it is business as usual.
But it does tend to be very busy over that period.

yoda, have to agree with you there, the park is very busy BUT you have to be very selective about where you go and also what times you choose to do certain activities.

Agree with tent dweller. The Phalaborwa locals come flying past you in long streams of cars at what looks and feels like 100km/h, music pumping, down the H9 at something to18H00.

Otherwise its one of the times that i enjoy, all the greenery, young aminals and of course.....the woodies (woodland kingfishers) singing their song.

I have yet to have a Christmas in Kruger or a New Years. Something I hope to rectify soon. I have, however, been in KNP in both December and January. Hot is an understatement, but awesome doesn't describe it. I'd be back at that time in a heartbeat. Even if the bush is lush and overgrown, it's always right time, right place. Business as usual.

We've been on a Dad's 'n Boys trip to the Kruger for the last 7 years or so...

Some years have been seriously hot, and some just hot. And on one or two days it was freezing! Be prepared and always take a warm something.
