Heavy rains in the Kruger National Park (KNP) have resulted in temporary closure of Bush Camps and most of the roads in the Nxanatseni Region. All the bookings made at the affected bush camps will be transferred to the nearest camps. Main roads leading to the rest camps with low level bridges have been affected as well.

“We took the decision to close Bush Camps so that we do not compromise the safety of our guests. On behalf of management, we apologise to all the guests for the inconvenience that might occur as results of this temporary closure” said the KNP Managing Executive, Mr Abe Sibiya.

The Bush Camps and roads which are currently closed are as follows:

- Shisha Low Level Bridge (S57) leading to Sirheni Bush Camp currently flooding.
- Shimuwini Low Level Bridge (S141) leading Shimuwini Bush Camp.
- Bateleur is also closed due to waterlogged road leading to the bush camp.
- Nyala Drive going to Thulamela.
- S-63 loop from the T-Junction to Crook’s corner
- Shongololo loop going to Shipandane Hide and Boulders
- Nkulumbeni Bridge (H1-7) between Shingwedzi and Punda Maria - guest are advised to use Phalaborwa - - Letaba
- Mopani-Phalaborwa road (H14) – guest are advised to use Phalaborwa- Letaba

Data lines at most of the rest camps in the north are affected.

The Road and Maintenance team is currently monitoring the situation to provide guests with alternative roads. More roads might be closed as it is still raining. All the roads which are closed are marked with “No Entry” signs or blocked with other objects. Motorists are urged not to use those roads and to drive with caution” commented Sibiya.

Guests visiting the Kruger National Park, can view the latest information regarding state of the roads at the following gates in the north:

Phalaborwa
Punda
Pafuri

Thank you Lesego, feel sorry for all that had buch camp reservations, always so special. Would you be able to tell me is the South effected.? I am going to Kruger tomorrow for 10days and I am worried about getting from Lower Sabie to Satara. I want to go from Malelane to CB on the S25 do you know if this road is still okay?
Any advise will be appreciated.

granny, they monitor the situation on a day to day basis so I would ask about the condition of the S25 at the gate when you arrive tomorrow but for myself I might be inclined to drive up to Satara on the tar road just to be safe.
Good luck and enjoy your trip. :D

Tar road north of Shingwedzi is open again. We came that way this morning.

It sure did need the rain, but yes, it is a bit much in one go. Last I heard they were at 200 mm, and the tar road of north of Luvuvhu Bridge was flooding. I have pics, but not yet in a suitable format for posting.

Will do my best for pics.

Have just heard that Pafuri Camp has been evacuated. That's to say, the guests were evacuated several days ago, but now the staff have been pulled out too, also from Maluteni (the old Pafuri ranger post) which is on a koppie.

Staff at the Pafuri border crossing have also been evacuated to TEBA.

Very wet up here.....solid rain since last night, just lightening now. Tar road between Phalaborwa and Mopani closed because Letaba river has overflowed and covered bridge.

I heard over the radio now that Shingwedzi was evacuated. Can I ask that we get official word on this, please?

Thank in advance!
