Agree with you. The food at the Pretoriuskop restaurant is always nice. We go there every year (sometimes more than once) and have something to eat. At the times that we stayed there and had late meals, the food was also very nice

I agree about the food etc. The staff at the restaurant are so polite and friendly. They really make you feel welcome

We will be visiting Pretoriuskop next week for 5 nights,we have never been to the park in summer, our annual holiday is always in winter, what temps can we expect? I have asked a few people and most say it is going to be unbearably hot, so now I have decided to ask the experts (fellow mites), thanks

Hi Tent Dweller, it can be hot, but my experience has been mixed. I have often had light rain and drizzle this time of the year which has made it rather pleasant.

The bush is green and filled with life that the heat has not bothered me too much. I have tended to find November and February more difficult.

I love the fact that it is filled with babies:



and little life forms playing the mating game.



the bush noise can be almost deafening at times.

Pretoriuskop in December is one of the nicest places to ever be!
We have done it the past 5 Decembers, and NOT ONCE have we been deadly overheated...
It is much higher than the rest of the park, so at least 3-5 degrees cooler...
The grass is still short after burns, so visibility very good...
The pool is fantastic, sometimes even too cool for my liking...!
The lions love lying on the rocks, especially on the little loop off the S7 (Shabeni hill) ...
You are close to Phabeni gate if you need to go to Blyderiver Canyon during the heat of the day (even cooler up there)...
Perfect stopovers for breakfast or lunch = Afsaal, Mathekenyane hill south of Skukuza, Lake Panic/nursery gardens, Albasini ruins...
Don't miss the S65 loop near Vervoerdam -- in September we saw lions on it every day, plus a leopard at the waterhole (check http://www.wlsightings.blogspot.com -- he is seen there nearly daily). The lions love the rocky outcrops near the H1-1 entrance, and one had small cubs there in October...
Cheetahs are regularly seen -- a male on the S3 towards the Phabeni/S1 junction, two brothers on the H1-1 tar road near Vervoerdam...
Wild dogs had pups on the koppie just west of camp. In Oct they were running on the loops around the camp with 1 pup, seen 2 days ago on the Fayi loop...
Leopard are common close to camp on most roads....
ONLY negative fact at the moment -- new cattle grid at entrance to camp, so impalas were not sleeping in camp in October, and you may miss babies sleeping outside your hut in December...

Friedrich,many thanks for your informative and speedy reply, Pretoriuskop was the first Kruger camp that we were ever privileged to visit and is one of our all time favourites, we are looking very forward to our impending trip, thank you

2 questions.

Does the communal kitchen have gas stoves?

Is there a communal freezer available for campers?

Will be there in jan camping

We (SO,myself,LO and her boyfriend) have just returned from spending 5 fantastic nights in Pretoriuskop, we booked 2 huts (number 71 and 72), they were spotless and well maintained,the abultions were kept clean constantly, hot water was available everytime we went to shower, the kitchen areas were clean everytime we went to use the stove and to wash dishes,the shop was well stocked and the staff were very helpful and also very pleasant. Well done Pretoriuskop, you will remain close to our hearts forever because you were the first camp that we were ever privileged to visit and we will continue to visit you every year.

Hi all

I need some help with information on the six sleeper units at Pretoriuskop, those that have the two bedrooms with three beds each separated by the bathroom (BG6). Under accommodation types it says with either bath OR shower. There are only two of these units in the camp - does anyone know which number has the shower?

Sorry if the question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the information on it

I cant help other than to tell you to phone the camp directly and to ask hope you enjoy it
