Seen late one evening on the S100 during Oct 2012.
This male Leopard crossed the road in front of us then run past us to cross the road behind us to head off a family of warthog.
The warthog boar spotted the leopard at the last second and escaped the leopards paw.
It was oh so close.

In my experience the S100 is a great route for Big Cat hunting. December 2011 we saw Cheetah, Lion and Leopard all in one drive. BUT, I think the best drive is to complete the entire loop i.e. start with the S100 turn right onto the S41 and then right on the H6 back towards Satara.

We had brilliant Cheetah sightings on the S41 and the H6 had brilliant Lion sightings as well as a Cheetah lying in the centre of the road about 5 km from the Nwanetsi picnic site. People don't drive the H6, they rather return on the S100 again.

Early Mornings are hectic on the S100 as everybody staying at Satara races there in the morning. The irony is that the one morning we went past the S100 and rather took the H6, and there they were...... Lions in the road with only two other cars!

It's the luck of the draw I suppose! :wall:

We have specifically booked Satara in October so we can drive the s100. Can't wait . Hope it is going to live up to its reputation

Hi Wachinda

I know you have said you like a to avoid the tar roads, but the H6 in the morning is a great alternative to the s100(which gets A LOT of traffic). In April I had a young male leopard walking down the road all to myself

Good luck for your sightings

Even if they don't deliver cats, they will deliver what they want you to see that day.

We've always been very lucky on the S100, seen lion almost every time. Having said that we probably won't ever see them again

Then head in the opposite direction from the S100, down the N7.

Lets see: left Satara late (6:30). Day started with honey badger, then lion, 6 cheetah. By then it was 9am... But then I think I have "S100 angels" Ohhhhh and did I mention this was before 9am?

"Eye of the Tiger", lovely morning indeed. I do not believe there is such a thing as a bad road, but some definitely seem better than others; such as the S100.

2 weeks ago, we drove this road for 2 morning drives and one afternoon drive without seeing any Lions...
The day before a pride of 11 Lions with cute cubs were seen close to the road... Right place, right time :hmz:

Came across a Civet though in the early morning! First time we saw one in daylight!

Drove the S100 late July in the evening, 3 lioness right beside the road, next morning lions sleeping by the road while the younger ones inspected the line of cars, very closely, nice experience. Also saw a big beautiful bull ellie and a jackal ,completed the loop and there were more lions at the end of H6. What a great place.

I have had some awesome sightings on the S100, the latest being now in Ocotber. A leopard lying in a tree - awesome sighting.

An awesome morning drive is to do the S90, right onto the S41, right onto the S100. My brother and I saw the Big Five before 8am one morning.

The H6, S41, S100 is also a great loop.

This is my favourite loop in KNP
I heard an elephant gave birth in the middle of the road yesterday early morning
Any pics anyone
