 Post subject: Requesting specific Accommodation.
Unread postPosted: Tue Nov 16, 2010 10:41 am
Hi - could anyone help me with this query?
I have reservations at Mopani from 25 December to 1 January 2011.
Everything's been paid in full, etc.
I have been trying to find out whether I can request a specific bungalow (close to the water) but I cannot seem to get through to anyone that can assist.
The fax number at Mopani is constantly engaged and I cannot get through to their landline either.
Any e-mail addresses I may be able to use?
Thanks so much!

This is all I have for you:

Contact Mopani
Tel: +27 (0)13 735 6535/6
Fax: +27 (0)13 735 6547
Mobile: 082 802 1113

You are way to early to request a specific bungalow though. Try doing that no earlier than 2 weeks before your first day.

Welcome to the forum donsieb.

They allocate the actual units about 2 weeks before occupation, so I would try about 10 December.

I have recently discovered the joys of staying in the bushveld camps in Kruger and have now managed to test drive them all.

My next vacation to Kruger is in November and I have booked a few nights in my personal favourite camps. They are Talamati, Tamboti, Satara and Biyamiti.

Please may the forumites out there share with me their favourite unit in all the camps. Apparently one can place a request to be placed in certain units.

Cute, intelligent thread, Mnondlozie

I would do anything to be in Kruger, anywhere...... but if I had a choice :hmz: I would be number 8 tent, Croc Bridge.

Absolutely agree... would love to spend anytime and anywhere in Kruger!

I have not as yet tried the tents at Croc Bridge... why is number 8 so special?

The tents are seemingly rather popular... would love to try the Punda Maria tents too!

I have asked for tent number 40 at Tamboti, unit number 11 at Talamati and unit 15 at Biyamiti.

Hoping the choices are good ones!

:)

Hi Mlondozi..

Croc Bridge is a lovely, intimate camp.

Tent number 8 is on the perimeter of the fence. It is magic.
My last special sighting.. no cameras.. was of an ellie and a rhino grazing together in munching distance. You just don't get better.

Hey.

My favorite cottage in number 1 at talamati. Its close to the hide and there are usually great animals by their hide.

But I would also go for biyamiti number 15.

Olifants: bungalows 106 - 111, 109 is probably the best.

Are that the ones with an open kitchen and view on the river? If so, I agree :D

The view from the veranda of 106:

That is looking towards Olifant Lookout (don't mix that up with the deck at the restaurant) on the S44.
Yep FC, those are the ones.
Far away from the hustle & bustle near the shop/reception/restaurant, but with a view at least as good as bungalows 1-9.

Hey.

Mlondozie - you should definitely request unit nr 1 at talamati. Whenever I go I try and stay at this unit. And I spend most of my time at the hide. You will get fantastic sightings from within the camp.

Unit 24 at Tambotie. It is private, close to ablutions and has a wonderful view.

Why not create an email address per camp (like orpen@sanparks.org) for requests like this and post that on the website?

I think that would be a great idea!
From my experience the contact list on the website although useful is not always accurate as people move on to different roles in other camps, leave etc. A generic email address as described would be a lot more customer friendly, especially for international visitors who for whom calls to South Africa are both costly and often difficult due to bad lines etc, but would be convenient for local people too.

It also might help to make them a little more money too for additional activities only bookable directly with camps e.g I tried to book a bush braai for a group I was travelling, after several emails being sent without any response from the camp I just gave up and didn't bother....if that happened to me then I'm sure I'm not the only one.
