A popular month with school holidays usually falling mostly in July.
The camps are alive with young voices!
These trips to K.P.are wonderful for children, viewing the animals and sharing family time.
I think they install a lifelong desire to return and relive the memories created in their youth.
With the weather a little chilly, the blanket on the bed keeps us cosy and with the gate only opening at 6 a.m., there is not such a rush to get going!

Thanks for the thread Kite.
So far, my adventures into KNP have been in July.
We deliberately book the weeks after school holidays to have a tranquil time of it.

We have loved it in the past, but would like to explore other times in the park, especially September, October or November.
Just before the good rains, when it's warmer and gate times stretched longer.

Wouldn't mind another July trip though.

We're having our first ever visit this July so very excited :D

Just a couple of questions? Would it be too cold to braai in the evenings and what time does it start to get dark?

It's never too cold to braai! Just huddle closer to the fire.
There can be a cold snap for a day or two but we have experienced warm sunny days.
Who can give an accurate time of darkness. I think by about 5:30 p.m it's getting dark.

May be a good time to ask for comments from mites in Kruger, or have been there this month or going soon!

 going in exactly 2 weeks from now... can't wait!
Kruger winters are better than the dutch summers so you won't hear me complain about the weather. Its so nice not to see any rain for three weeks

We were in the park last week from 14 - 19 July and it was great. The days were very warm except for Thursday when it rained most of the day and the temps were much cooler. Evenings and mornings were cold but around 9.30 began to get warmer.

I have found July surprisingly mild. Maybe it is such a stark relief coming from the highveld bitter mornings.

I have camped in July and with a good jacket and goo quality sleeping bag, felt really quite cosy. I always make sure that I have a warm hat, if need be, gloves and warm socks.

A word of warning, dress very warmly if going on a game drive. The temperatures fall very rapidly once the sun sets and mild can turn bitter an instance.

For me the winter in KNP is fantastic! when we were young that was the holiday we looked at the most.

But still it is a good time to view animals. depending on what you expectation is when you go to Kruger. If one are going to KNP just to go for sightings then the winter months is the best. Waterholes and you have a feast of sightings. But then again the summer months is HOT and everything. But then the bush is at its beautifullest. And you experience nature at its bests.

So just a tip for someone that is new to KNP! Depending on what you expect from Kruger, you must chose what time to go to Kruger.

M.M. A little mouse can always get warm in a little sheltered nook somewhere!
What is happening in Kruger this July?
Where are the best sightings? Have you had a great walk or game drive?
Any burnt areas to be endured?
Any news at all!

We had a real busy trip with lots of sightings

Where are the best sightings?

What to choose.....lion kill, honey badger digging out worms, pack of wild dogs, great elephant sightings with lots of baby elephants

Have you had a great walk or game drive?

We did not have time for that

Any burnt areas to be endured?

Lots of burnt areas north and south

Any news at all!
