This simple memorial near Shingwedzi always brings a lump to my throat. Does anyone know anything about him?

Hi granjan

Most interesting ...

I did a search of the website to see if perhaps there was mention of this person, and all I could find was this topic: - read here.

Source : "Neem Uit Die Verlede" by the late Dr U de V Pienaar - warden of the KNP untill 1985 .

B A (Bran) Key was a member of the then board of trustees of the SA National Parks Board who died in 1949 . He requested that his ashes be strewn in the Shingwedzi area (unsure if his request was for the ashes to be strewn in the precise location) - his favourite camp . His family donated money to erect a hut in Shingwedzi camp .
Ranger W (Bill) Lamont carved the memorial out of sandstone .

Granjan : : I have never seen this memorial , the above mentioned book states it is located on the northern bank of the Shingwedzi river near to the Kanniedood dam wall , I assume this is where the photo was taken ?
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

Thanks for the info ndloti

I was trying to find out who Bran Key was after granjan's post.
In "Making the most of Kruger" is places the memorial and states "Bran Key Memorial" but does not give any info.

Very interesting and a lovely pic of the stone granjan

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Ndloti, the stone is I think on the next left turn after the Kanniedood hide or possibly the one after that. Its a short track that loops round a tree wirh a view over the water and the stone is at the base of the tree.
