We've been there in August. The road is in an excellent condition, both from Hazyview and White River.
Beware of the taxi traffic though.

We were advised not to use Numbi, but honesly, no problem. The road is really looking good.
Enjoy yourself at P'kop.
Hope you see a Sable or two

It's fine to Enter Numbi. Just don't stop between Numbi and Nelspruit and you'll be fine. Watch out for a couple of irresponsible drivers and you'll be there in no time.

The roads in the park from Numbi are 100%. Did them over easter

No problem with the road there earlier in March.

Hi there, it’s safe as long as you stay observant. Don’t go do something that will get you into trouble, as long as you adhere to that rule, you can travel thru there without any worries.

The road is pretty good. There are domestic animals crossing the road together with pedestrians, and although they are pretty streetwise by now, stay on the lookout for them. If you can, don’t go thru there when its dark.

And don’t expect any coffee shops there on the way either.

On the 11th of Aug 2007 we entered the KRUGER at Numbi at 6:00am.
We just went there for the day. It was very very busy because of the long weekend.
About 2km from the gate we spotted a hyena in the road ahead of us.
While we were looking at the Hyena, there was another car in front of us.
At first we thought they were also looking at the hyena, but it was not to be....
TWO CHEETAHS!!! this is what they were looking at.
At first the couple was sitting on ant hill looking at zebras in the distance. We didn’t want to lose so we waited until they got up and that wasn’t more than 10min.
We followed them for 45 min as they walked a long the road next to us...

In June we had a sighting of 4 Cheetah, I would say about the same place as yours, so it seems they are hanging around that area.

Many moons ago (June 1976) - my SO's first visit to Kruger - we entered at Numbi for our first two nights in Pretoriuskop. The very first animal we saw was a big male lion between Numbi and Pretoriuskop. If I remember correctly it was also my last lion I saw near Pretoriuskop or Numbi. Lately I hardly see any mammals on this piece of road.

Therefore, cheetah - what a sighting!!

We regularly visit the Kruger park as day visitors because we live in White River.
We enter at Numbi gate and love the Fayi loop and other circle roads around the koppies at Pretoriuskop because we always see lots of animal sightings.
Between Numbi and pretoriuskop we nearly always see buffalo, rhino, lions (at least 4 times the last year), zebras, giraffe, and lots of small game.
We were especially lucky the last time to see "rooi ribbok" and "rietbok", and a Leopard.
I'll post some photos of the sightings...all we haven't seen is wild dogs

It would be great to see some photos Cadac.
I enjoy that area because of the scenery and there are also many historical spots.

Dear fellow forumites, I highly recommend going on the tar road from Pretoriuskop to Skukuza, the only draw back is that you must be first at the gate.

That road has never failed us, if its wild dogs, Cheetah, Leopard,Lion, Sable, I can guarantee that you will have a great sighting of some sort. BUT be first at the gate,and take the short cut on the dirt road to the main road, so you are always first on the main road. Eventually you will meet with cars from Skukuza but thats okay. When we went in January we had such a great sighting of Leopard on the Shitlave Dam Road, the female was siting in the road and all of a sudden the male came across, we seldom go down that road early in the morning but decided to give it a try.

Transport Dam is another fantastic road if you are there early enough, saw Leopard and Lion down that road. The Voortrekker Road is also a good road to go on.

I dont understand why some people think Pretoriuskop is dood gevrek!!! Its not!!!

I also had two great lion sightings in the early morning near Pretoriuskop (Shitlave and Shabeni loop). I was the first car at the gate several times but usually other cars overtake me as soon as I get out

I absolutely agree with you Mama fariu. It was on this road, early morning april 2007 that we were the first out, a little rainy when we first met with 2 lionesses, then we had a drive of 3 ks with 7 doggies and in between our, sofar, only brief encounter with a serval. And that on our last day. So glad we decided to take a long drive from Pkop to CB on the tar. Left CB at 11.30 to be on time for our evening flight back home. A day to remember.
