Or if you go polokwane way, stop at Magoebaskloof hotel (not lodge) an have a breakfast/brunch on their verandah. View down the valley is unbeatable, especially winter with it's crisp air.

Shimuwini is one of my favourite camps. The camp is nice and quite, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great and even if you don't go for a drive, sitting on your veranda, and looking at the river is already worthwhile. I have written a bit about shimuwini on in my last trip report with some photo's and video. Exciting stories for the kids to tell

Enjoy your trip. I'm

Hi All,

I need some advice on a northern trip we are planning in December.

So far, we have decided to stay in Shingwedzi for 3 days, and then move to one of the follwoing bushveld camps for 2 days:
>Sirheni
>Bateleur
>Shimuwini

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Hi PJPE

Welcome to the forum. I haven't been to bateleur before so I can not advise you on that camp. We've been to Sirheni and shimuwini. Both beautiful camps. Shirheni is all the way to the top and it's a very quiet bush camp. Lots of trees so you really get the BUSH feeling and with a nice view of the river. The bird life is amazing there.
Shimuwini is also amazing and my favorite camp. It has beautiful green lawns in front of the cottage and you also have stunning views on the river. A difference in view of the both camps is the view of Shirheni is a bit less because its thicker bushes on the other side of the river than at shimuwini. There you can see the herds of buffalo's and elephants roaming on the other side of the river all the time.

For photos you can look at this link HERE There you can see the difference in views on the river.

Enjoy planning your trip and let us know what you've decided.

From Bateleur, go to Rooibosrand Dam. If there is water, it is a great place to pass the time. Maybe see sable.

I vote for Sirheni with Bateleur 2nd (due to the fact that there are TV sets there ...

Thanks roaneric, Bush Baptist and ndloti for the advice.

In the end, the decision was made for us to an extent due to availabilty.
So beginning of Dec, 3 days Shingwedzi in a BD5, and 2 days in Sirheni

I've never been to Sirheni, and Shingwedzi only once a couple of years ago, so I think this will be the ideal oppurtunity to explore northern Kruger PROPERLY!

So far on my to do list (apart from driving in general):
>Pafuri
>Northern trails 4x4

Anything else I should plan for??

Visit the best picnic spot in Kruger at Pafuri.

It is a long drive from Shingwedzi but worth every km.

You cant go wrong with sirheni. Ndloti i didnt know you would put sirheni first on your list. PJPE try to book bungalow 1 or 2. For me they have the best view of the river. Oh boy now i wish i was there
