 Post subject: Bait Boxes - Skukuza Restaurant Area

I have just retuned from a fantastic vacation in Kruger but was unhappy with what I saw at Skukuza rest camp. There are black boxes all around he restaurant area and they appear to be bait boxes for rats. Unfortunately I did not take a photograph.

I would like to know why the are being used in a National Park?
What are the secondary affects of the poison / bait used ?

Perhaps this has already been discussed, if so I apologise.
