I don't think I have managed a visit in October yet, so please share what you have found!

I would love to know what I can excpect during the last week of October? Might be going to Kruger and was wondering which camps/areas start greening first should we be lucky enough to have some rain before the week of the 25th. Any fellow mites with suggestions? I have only been during April and June so am holding thumbs like mad that it won't be a late dry year but that some rains may come maybe middle Oct. Would absolutely love to see some of the fresh green sprouts but I know it's up to nature on that one :hmz:

If I had the luxury of choosing a time of year for a Kruger visit, October would not be a primary option :) Extreme doses of rain pouring down can be frustrating. When we were there the animals hid away from the thundershowers, and all the dirt roads closed because they were too slippery and dangerous for the cars.

The blooming of the flowers was beautiful though :D Still, the summer flowers can be seen in Nov/Dec, In my experience the rainfall in Nov/Dec has been fair  November is superb as you get all the young lambs

Just before the rains come in September is also a superb time to be in the Park! The dryness lends itself towards great numbers of animals being seen :D

I read the previous posts and wonder...Is it really hot in October? I thought it would be spring-like weather..

I have visited in October the last few years and it has been hot.
Last year the park was beautiful - lots of flowers and greenery everywhere, and some rain.
In 2011 we had a heat wave of note! but that was all over including Johannesburg during that month.
I think the weather has become so unpredictable the last few years one never knows, but bank on the park being hot.

The hottest that I have experienced Kruger has been in October. The southern camps are usually the greenest.

If you are not afraid of the heat, it is a good time for water hole watching.

Taken in October at Jones dam.

I think October can be one of those variable months where the weather can be hot, pleasant or miserable depending on cold fronts etc.
So really the luck of the draw.

I was there in October 2011 and October 2012.
October 2011 was ridiculously hot - hadn't had any rain and the heat was something else.

October 2012 - a different story.
The park was the best I had seen it - everything was green and there were carpets of flowers everywhere.
There was quite a lot of rain before our trip and even during the week we were there.

Going again in October so hopefully there will be some rain before.
