Greetings to all my fellow wildlife enthusiasts

I am lucky enough to be making my way to the KNP in january in 2014 and fortunately i have be able to secure a reservation at lower sabie in a safari tent. I have been looking forward to staying in a safari tent for a very long time and what better place to it than at lower sabie.

As i am not experienced in this style of accommodation i was hoping to get some feedback as to what some of your experiences have been like. From my own experience in the park and other people that have stayed in the safari tents before i have an idea as to what to expect, how ever I would like to draft up a list of pros and cons purely for the sake of it as its something to do in order to pass the time until my trip.

Please add to my list below by copying and pasting with additions:

PROS:
Staying in a safari tent at lower sabie
Awsome facilities
Sense of feeling closer to nature
The sounds of the bush are a bit louder
In the quieter part of the camp

Cons:
Summer can bring extremely hot temperatures
no Aircon in summer

FOOTNOTE:

Summer can also bring rain so the heat might not even be a factor during our stay.

Appreciate any and all inputs :D

Stickman... Lower sabie safari tents are like trying to find hens teeth in the karro. They are very popular
There are plenty of Pros they have everything a normal chalet has and more . Hope you can get a river view one though the others are also good
They all have ceiling fans which work very well so you wont be hot at all .
Best part is that you feel you are on Safari . and really in the bush . The animal noises and grunts and growls sound just next to the tent The bush smells . and of course the area is not as busy as the main part of the camp
So enjoy

Kruger Safari Tent living in summer when it rains is good especially after it has been very hot. Loads of atmosphere :D 8)

Hi Stickman,

PROS:
You're in the KNP so any accommodation will do :D

CONS:
You're in the KNP so there aren't any...

On a serious note, the tents are awesome and the views of the river are fantastic.
It can be a little hot but that comes with going in Summer.
For me, the experience outweighs anything else.

Enjoy

Hey Stickman. We have booked 3 tents at LS for January 2014 and cannot wait.

Pros: River View Tent is spectacular.
Bush View Tent is wonderful.
Ceiling fan actually makes it quite chilly at night.
During the day it is hot... but hey you only return to camp after 6pm and by the time the sun goes down there is nothing more perfect than sitting out on the deck having a drink and a braai!
As already stated by Grantmissy the rain imbues some atmosphere into the experience.
Hugh is spot on about the animal and bush smells and sounds-spectacular.
Well equipped and spaced further apart than the bungalows so better privacy.
Ensuite facilities.

Cons: Not getting a tent!

I agree it is one of the busiest roads and chances of traffic build ups along the sabie river do occur when great sightings take place.

as to the traffic at the gates, after being in the park for a while before i dont myself managing too many 4am starts, so leaving the camp at 5 gives the crowds a chance to spread out.

The early bird may catch the worm but the worm that sleeps in gets to enjoy the fruits!

Those are some awsome pictures you sent  :cam:

We stay in safari tents whenever we can, but not at LS.

If you are too hot in the tents then you are wasting the wrong part of the day. The fans do a good job.

I would rather be there and hot than at work in aircon.......

I agree with all the pros :D We always stay in safari tents at LS, next July again  , we love the place.
The only con for us is that the braais are build up against the veranda. This is really nice idea, but if the wind is in the wrong direction it smokes the tent out.
But how said above, the ,morning traffic and the noises at night are fabulous. :D
