BB , unless I am mistaken , though my memory seldom fails me when it comes to books on Kruger by rangers (wives in this instance) . I think it is in the book "Mahlangeni" (Afrikaans version is titled Boskonsert) by Kobie Kruger .

The paranoia is starting.......

Another person in KNP related how upon waking they discovered the trail from the talcum powder they had spread at the room entrance over their bedding .

we will not discuss all the stories about the famous "long drop" and snakes

I am terrified of snakes, they honestly make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end just writing about them. So EVERY time we visit Kruger the father-in-law tells me the story of a friend of his who used to visit kruger every year and his wife never would. One year she gave in and decided to join him, he took her to his favourite picnic spot at timbavati and as they started eating lunch a Boomslang fell from a tree onto their table...of course wife went mad, swore she would never go back to Kruger.
About 10-15 years later husband was diagnosed with cancer and given months to live, his last wish was to take his wife back to kruger and finish the picnic they never had. She agreed and they returned to timbavati. Just as they finished eating, who falls onto their table...their little green friend!

Suprising to say i have never picniced at timbavati

This was taken at the LS tented camp a year or so ago . I have sent it before but a gent was having a shower . thought shower head was loose and realised it was a snake. rushed out of the tent with just a towel . WE were in the neighbouring tent.. and watched the story unfold. They removed the wooden bits and by this time mr Snake was long gone . Moved the gent to a norrmal hut .. but quickly remade the bed and new folk moved in unaware of the drama.

Wow, That's why we're always camping,the safest way!

After ndloti and TheunsH’s guidance I am pondering whether to be on the safe side and to include a chamber pot in the “to pack list”. Matthys I also think it is wise to NOT spread any talcum powder.

Reminds me of the story told by a ranger of the fellow combing his hair after showering and remarking to himself that the water droplets he felt were out of place as he had towell dried his hair thoroughly , then noticing the cobra on a beam above his head that was spitting venom at his comb and hand movements .
