OK - some photos taken around the camp.....

This is how you arrive at the camp (actually taken on departure but never mind!). Guests leave their own cars at Skukuza behind the library, and then travel to the camp in the 10-seater with luggage in the trailer. At the end of camp  they are taken back to their cars.

And this is the scene that greets you....the renovated kitchen and dining area with the braai/fire area beyond.

There are 3 ablution blocks - one with hot water for women, a cold shower for men, and a hot shower for men! All 3 have 2 toilets.

Rechargeable LED lanterns are used in the tents at night, and hurricane lamps are placed on the paths. A torch is vital though as the lamps are turned out after everyone goes to bed. The shower rooms have solar lights (nothing in the toilets).

You get up early in the morning, have hot drink and rusks/cereal. Pack selected snacks for the walk, and drive to the start of the walk. One person carries the backpack with snacks (usually take turns with this - not really heavy). About half way stop for snacks and fruit juice, and then walk back to vehicle. Back to camp for late morning (or even early afternoon!) and a good brunch. Then a rest for an hour or so before going out for a drive and sundowners and snacks. Back to camp for a good dinner..... A full cold box of beers/soft drinks is taken on the vehicle so no one goes thirsty!

Brings back fond memories..the tents used to be a lot smaller with dodgy zips , looks like a luxury camp now !

There are still 2 of the original tents - for helpers. I slept in one of the old ones at the gate!

Hi All,

As I mentioned in an earlier post I will start my KNP holiday with 3 nights at Sand River Bush Camp, but I have a problem in that 3 people who were to join us have had to withdraw. The dates are 23 - 26 May. If there is anybody among you that would like to take these three places please send me a message.

We are not into endurance hikes, and interested in all aspects of the ecology, particularly the plants (I am a horticulturist and am very involved with Gauteng's foremost indigenous nursery).

Regards,

Malcolm

I will be going down to SRBC at the end of July as a helper, this will be my 1st time in a Bush camp and really looking forward to it. Thanks Ecojunkie for the pics, this is exactly what I was looking for.

What I wouldn't do to be there right now :( I think that it must be one of my favourite places in the Park.

I'm impressed with the upgrades. I enjoyed the very primitive feel beforehand, but I did wish for slightly better ablutions. I also like the fact that there is a place to sit in front of the tent.

sigh

How easy would it be to cater for certain dietary requirements, e.g. Kosher?

Lotsa Wharthog around to slag JL.

But one thing I see is a fence. :? Sadly that detracts from a "Bushcamp" IMHO. 8)

JL, we used to get the Kosher foods from a place in JHB, still sealed & easy to pack, that might be an option. Will phone my old boss & find the name.
