Here's my choice for one of the best round-trips in the Park which will take you a large portion of the day to complete.
I choose this route for the combination of wonderful scenery, large variety of landscapes and opportunities to see animals.

In summary the route is as follows: H10/H1-2/H12/S30/S29(continuing over the tar-road past Mlondozi)/H10.

Scenery: Great viewpoints at Nkumbe and Mlondozi-picnic spot.

Variety in landscapes: Umbrella-Thorn thickets along Sabie-river; Beautiful wide open plains from just north of Sabie-river all the way to Nkumbe; Mountain-bushveld on Nkumbe; Delagoa-Thorn thickets south of Tshokwane; Mixed Bushwillow woodlands from Kruger tablets southwards; Riverine Woodland and viewpoints on S30; Lovely large Marulas and Knob-thorns on Gabbro and Dolerite intrusions on S30.

Game-viewing opportunities: Elephant herds near Sabie-river; Large buffalo herds near Muntshe; Cheetah on S29 surrounding Muntshe; Leopard on S30; Lion anywhere on this route.

Nice rest-stops: Tshokwane, Mlondozi.

Cool Canis! Was the Cheetah sightings on the Eastern side near Lower Sabi? They get seen in that section quite regularly!

Yes Cheetah2111, it was approx 10 kms from LS

For me it used to be the s100 because it never failed to produce a cat for us in all our years of going to the park, but ever since visiting lake panic I've converted. I think it's the S42 because lake panic is the most peaceful, gorgeous place ever

The best road for me is the one with the least amount of vehicles on it. For instance last year July during the school holidays we drove the Shongololo loop for 3 hours straight without seeing another car. That was heavenly!

Right now the shongololo is closed from the flooding
For a low traffic road, that is high in animal life, and richly scenic I say the S56 Mphongolo Loop 8)

Tough topic. For birding it would be between the Mohanie Loop (S99) and the S63, but if I had to choose one I would probably go for the Mahonie Loop.

If I had to choose one road for mammals I rate I would go with the S28. It produces cats every time!

For me it has to be the S30. A very quiet road for the south which has given us some great sightings, where we were the only car. Especially in the late afternoon.

I agree with the s30 Salitje road. I once saw 2 lionesses, a cheetah with 5 cubs and another cheetah towards the end of the road but I was exceptionally lucky that time. Nontheless, even without sightings it remains a peaceful road that winds through various landscapes and botanical zones.
