S140 and S146 to Talamati

Unread postby Weltenman » Fri Mar 26, 2010 12:53 pm

Hi there guys,

Maybe someone can help me with an answer on a question I have. The road leading to Talamati Bushveld Camp, is that a private road or not? I always seem to remember that the Bushveld Camps have an added advantage of a private road that only the residents of the camp can use. I think the private lodges in the nearby concession can also use that road?

Thanks.

Hi Weltenman,

Only the last bit (off the S140/145) is private - about 200m or so. The S140/S145 is NOT a private road and is open to all vehicles. One interesting thing is that no-one can tell me where the S145 starts and where it ends - once you turnoff the S36 at Mondzweni it's the S145... then somewhere after Talamati (maybe at the entrance to the private road  ) it suddenly becomes the S140....

PS: The safari camps also enter via the S145, but have their own private access road - about 2km from Mondzweni....

Hi Nungu

Thanks, did it change recently? Why I am asking I saw on a map on the forums, see the link, http://www.ecotravel.co.za/Guides/Reser ... p_Full.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, where the roads are marked as private.

Thanks

I have used it for a few years now (since 2001), but I always pop in to Tal to greet old friends there.

Don't think its changed recently Weltenman - we've used this road several times to get to Orpen... I've set up a google map to show what I meant in my post above:

Image

The Green road is all access S145/S140,
The Red is the private access to Talamati, and
The Yellow is the private access to the private camps.

However because Talamati is so remote the S145 effectively becomes a private road for a couple of hours in the morning and again in the evening.
