Have any forumites travelled this gravel road, between Tshokwane and Nwanedzi, recently? I'm interested both in the condition of the road, as well as recent sightings.

Last time I used them, odd 7 years ago, had a couple of sightings of lone elephant bulls (one of which was quite aggressive! ) and more common game (impala, wildebeest and zebra).

If my recollection is correct they don't carry much traffic either, most visitors sticking to the tar between Satara / Nwanedzi and Tshokwane?

Comments on Swenihide (which is close to the Nwanedzi-end of the S37) are also welcome, but I think there is a separate thread dedicated to it already.

Have only done the southernmost part of the S35 - it was a year ago and it was a mixed experience. The state of that part of the road was the worst I have travelled on in Kruger, very badly corrugated and I felt that every part of the car was going to shake off violently until I was just left in the open air holding a steering wheel.

However, game-wise it was different. Eileen Orpen Dam made it worthwile - buffalo, waterbuck, fish eagle, crocs - as did the three lionesses by the side of the road before the turnoff towards Tshokwane.

That in itself is an excellent reason to drive the Lindanda and Trichard road.

I once managed to go for 3h50m before I met the first oncoming vehicle by heading up the H10 from LS first thing in the morning, bypassing Orpen Dam, then up Lindanda, west on Trichardt, across the tar and on to Vutomi, where I met a vehicle on the dam wall. This was many years ago, but I recall that I got three lionesses on Lindanda.

Is it as good a road in winter in your opinion?

The Orpen dam will be good in winter :D
But the S35 and S37 are best in summer for sure! Because they very dry roads. I have only had nice sightings on this road this February.

Aweomse quiet road as others have mentioned. Great for BBJ these days. Good plains game. Seen one of the big 6 male lions closer to the Nwanetsi side (1km from junction) mating with a female. Just missed the rest of the male coalition

This must be the less travelled road in the park. It is not near a camp and one must intend to go on it. I have never done this road, it is just out of the way every time.
