I definately want to stay at Orpen in the near future!! And go cheetah and wild dog searching on the H7 near Orpen. Seen AWC on the H7 by the satara side. 100m from the H1-3

I am pretty sure the big numbers are nearer the fence.

I have a booking for 2 nights in Orpen in July a BD2. Can anyone recommend which one has the best view of the watering hole.
TIA

I would say number 12 is the best. The rest of the bungalows has trees in front of them. These pictures Here are of family bungalow 13, right next to 12 .

Enoy your stay

After amazing weekend (extended) trip to park we are back home and already missing Kruger so much
So we are planning for our next trip again during Easter
This time we would like to stay in Orpen and Satara camps.
Please share your experience about the Orpen camp as I am really looking forward to stay there.

Few questions:
A. Which units are recommended for a family of 3 and unit number if possible.
B. How is the road to Orpen from JHB?
C. How long does it take to travel to Orpen?

Thanks.

Hi Bush hugger

Orpen is a great little camp, small and quiet.

If you are planning to go over Easter you better make sure there is space as the Park is quite full over that time.

There are two accomodation types, some two bed units and I think three six sleeper cottages. For a family of three you would probably need a six sleeper as they mention on the accomodation description for the two bed units that no extra persons are allowed. (maybe if you ask them nice enough  )

Another alternative to Orpen is Tamboti tented camp about 2 km from Orpen. There are two and four sleeper permanent safari tents, some with private bathrooms.

JHBG to Orpen is about 5 1/2 hours travelling. I would suggest via R540 Dullstroom/Lydenburg then R36 via Ohrigstad over Abel Erasmus pass. The R36 from the N4 is a disaster (when I travelled that way in May 2012 and I doubt its been fixed since). There are some potholes the way I suggest but its manageable.

Enjoy your time in the Park
