Hi Safarigirl

The Skukuza Nursery is a nursery of indigenous plants that people can view and purchase. It is located just outside Skukuza.

There are many resident animals in the camps, however genets are nocturnal and quite shy so avoid humans. I have never seen any in the camps but have frequently seen both small spotted and large spotted genet on the night drives from the camps.

Impala and bushbuck are common within the camps. Bushbuck have become so tame (because some people feed them :naughty: ) that they will walk right up to your table while eating, I've had to almost punch 1 to stop it from eating off our plates it was so persistent!

Sticking with the topic of this thread...

I LOVE the impalas in Pretoriuskop...

Hi Dippies, I hope that you have a good long stay here :D

The cricket field is in the village, not the camp. You will see signs to the village outside Skukuza. You can also reach the village by taking the Lake Panic turn off, but that is a bit more complicated. Once in the village, it is easy to find the cricket field.

Things to do and see in the traditional Kruger Camps from my personal perspective are:

Punda Maria – Admiring the old style Hartebeest Huts. Doing the flycatcher trail in the camp.

Shingwedzi – Visiting the fish pond at the restaurant, viewing the bird’s nests at the restaurant and take a walk through the aloe garden in front of the reception. The Impala Lily’s in winter never fail to impress.

Mopani – Having a drink on the deck of the restaurant viewing the Dam.

Letaba – The elephant museum and hall.

Olifants Camp – The view over the Olifants River and valley - best at full moon. Stargazing.

Satara - It is the camp to do a stroll next to the fence at night with a torch.

Orpen - Sitting on the bench next to the perimeter, watching the water hole. Watching the birds, insects and reptiles in the trees in the garden in front of the huts.

Skukuza - A visit to the Selati train museum like restaurant. A visit to the cool library.

Lower-Sabie – Reading a book on one of the memorial benches next to the perimeter fence and scanning the river every few minutes in between.

Crocodile Bridge – Bird watching.

Malelane - Looking at the trees in the camp, some great specimens.

Pretoriuskop - Absorbing the almost eerie historical atmosphere of the camp. Go for a swim in the best pool in the Kruger.

Berg-en-Dal – Sitting on a bench next to the perimeter watching the wildlife in the Spruit. There is almost always animals to see up close.

Grantmissy

Shing - Swim in the pool. Birding in camp.

Mopani - Walk to the baobab tree, and at night keep your eyes open for serval and other smallish animals that hide in the bush inside the camp.

Letaba - Admire the magnificent view. At night check the perimeter fence for hyena & leopard.

Satara, Orpen & Tamboti - Look out for the honey badgers after dark.

Skukuza - Visit the Stephenson-Hamilton Library and see the story of legendary ranger Harry Wolhuter & his lion.

Croc Bridge - The take aways at the cafe are the best in the park - if they are still allowed to do them.

Pkop - Look for the purple crested turacos in camp.

 We have been visited by the Orpen honey badgers many times. The last time we stayed in one of the cottages the fridge was placed inside one of the rooms. I do not think they were very happy with the humans spoiling their midnight feasts.

Will report back on Shingwedzi as the flood in January 2013 was bad.

Lower Sabie is the Sunset dam just before the gate closes.

Olifants Sunsat on the left hand side river view if your back is to the river.

Catching a movie at night in a camp

A bush walk

A Night drive
