Hi All,

Busy planning our upcoming trip to Kruger this month.

Hoping someone could tell us the opening times for Tshokwane, Afsaal and Nkuhlu in January?
We can't find this information anywhere and we love to stop at these picnic spots on our morning drives.

All information much appreciated.

Hi Blesbok :D I hope that you have a stunning up and coming trip.

I am not sure of the actual opening times, but I am pretty certain that Nkhulu and Afsaal would open at about eight/nine at the latest. Regardless of opening times, they are lovely stops.

Tshokwane might be different, as it is a bit further from major camps and gates. I do remember arriving a bit before nine once and it was still closed. That was a couple of years back though.

Thanks,

Dear Mant,

Thanks for your enquiry. Tshokwane is still closed although guests can stop and stretch their legs as temporary toilets have been provided. It will take several months to get the place fully operational again.

Thank you.

Thanks for that Joep. It has always been a place to just chill awhile. Sad to think of it so devastated. :(

I believe Nhlanguleni on the S36 has been reopened and the Orpen dam is also available altho there are no skottels available for cooking on there.

Molondozi (S29) a bit closer to Lower Sabie is another option as well as Nkhuhlu on H4-1. Both have skottels available.

Thunderbird, Orpen dam is very full at the moment and after the floods cleared out all the water lettuce, looking good.

Hi

Could someone please update information regarding Tsokwane Picnic Spot. When I was there in March there were temp toilets available. Is tehre any news of it being reopened or some idea when it might be.

Thanks

Hi Nicolette,

I was also there in March and missed my usual coffee etc. :(

I emailed Joep Stevens regarding the reopening etc. and he gave a quick and very help response as he always does. Its seems that it may take some time to repair and rebuild Tshokwane but the park expects the Tshokwane to be up and running come the holiday at the end of the year.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Berkisa. So June July it will still be out I guess. I missed it when I was there. The damage looked bad though. I also was shocked at the change in the river bed. The water must have come down at one heck of a force.
