Popped in to Satara yesterday 15 March and checked out the restaurant under the new franchise. The sign on the glass door says the new operation opened on the 11th March. Compass have pulled out their infrastructure, fridges, cookers, furnishings etc..it's quite a change. None of the old slow service. None of the expensive questionable food quality !!

In fact it quite a sight now!!

There is nothing...no Wimpy, No Mugg & Bean....nothing at all except a tiny stack of old rubble brushed into a corner. No sign of new fittings being installed, or new advertising or ANY involvement of ANY new future franchise.

For those that ARE desperate for a snack, there is however a mock-up operation in the day visitors area, on the sand under a large awning, with what looks like the stripped out cookers. I can't see the Dept of Heath inspectorate approving that though. Nor the Dept of Labour safety inspectors approving the exposed plug-points with all that recent rain.

Anybody know what's going on? (Asking for facts here, not propaganda)

Please see Lesego's post here, Riverrat :

Planned opening date: Between 14 and 21 April 2014.
It should be noted that a ‘Bush Kitchen / Boskombuis” which will offer a limited menu and limited seating capacity will be operational in the Day Visitors area during refurbishment.

I think my only ever complaints on this Forum have been about the Satara restaurant - the quality and the terrible (TERRIBLE) service, so this is very good news indeed. :D

Hi All,

I was in Satara on the weekend. I have made use of the coffee shop in the day visitor's area and all I can say is wow!! I can't remember the last time that I was pleasantly surprise as I was on Thursday morning. Brilliant helpfull friendly service. Excellent food! You have to try the PAP Omelette

I can't comment on the safety aspects as I do not know the laws regarding this but I did feel very safe with my 1 year old son running around.

I was able to confirm with the staff though that Mugg and Bean will start renovating soon.

Well Done Satara!!!!

P.S. the shop is a different matter. Not once was I in the shop without them having a shortage of change and having to wait for them to get some. Might be due to the coin companies but it really was a pain and several people walked and just left their purchases at the counter.

Please be very careful about casual insinuations and allegations. If you cannot substantiate these claims then we will have to remove the posts.

And the alternative view.

My partner collects change and likes to be able to pay with the correct money at all times. We once spent 10 highly amusing minutes with the ladies in the shop at Orpen while they exchanged all his loose change for notes, once they had spotted that he had loads. We gathered from this experience that there is a shortage of change throughout the park. So please don't always blame the shop assistants, they really do their best under very trying circumstances. It's not as if they can pop next door to the bank to get more change, now is it?

I also have paid with my collected "shrapnel" at various park shops and it is always appreciated as the tills are invariably short of small change. While I don't purposely "collect" it, the "shrapnel" does always seem to collect and I am always happy to be rid of it, so a mutually satisfactory exchange

Great idea, saraf and arks!! I frequent a take-away place nearby (bad girl!) and they are always so happy to take some of my coins off me. Most of my larger shopping is done with credit card but somehow I seem to accumulate coins and they are heavy and take up too much space for their worth!
