Yip my favourites sites are right at the end of the camping on the culdersac, nice out of the way and a bit more private, 20m will be long enough

I have booked a ba3u for 2 nights in January. I saw on the Berg n Dal map that there is a dam on the side. Does anyone know if this dam is dried up or if there is water in it. Anyone have recommendations of which unit # to request.

the dam is in front of the restaurant and reception and for me is full of water

thebush In January there will definitely be plenty of water in the dam.
I would say units 24, 25 or 27 would give great views but I think you would need to request them early, like right now.
Even then they might be already allocated.

Faz87, most of the forum members are not going to say 'take a tv' ... the feeling is to go to the bush to enjoy the bush sounds and peace and quiet. But folk do take tvs into the park, and when camping. The big thing is that no one else should hear it. Some folk are either deaf or do not think for a minute that what they are viewing on their tv is not something their neighbour wants to listen to. That is when people start to get hot under the collar. I personally think folk should take head phones along too if they wish to watch tv, or listen to the radio. A radio can be just as intrusive.

From what I recall most camps do have tvs up in the communal areas somewhere. Of course, which channels are on will always be a factor. I have seen soccer and rugby matches shown on these tvs.

Faz87 regarding the monkey business – as said above just take care and do not tempt them for example with food as they cannot resist temptation at all even if you do this . We stayed in the Le Roux cottage last year during May and the monkeys were very very busy around and especially on the roof of the cottage and plenty of the thatching grass from the roof were flying through the air during daylight hours. I assume preventative measures were put into place since then to limit any damage to property. When we visited the shop some of them were even busy stealing but the shop attendant very quickly called them to order but they just went outside and continue behaving badly as one of them with speed of lightening grabbed an ice-cream from someone’s hand. But then I personally feel that Kruger is their home which they share in harmony with the other animals. I also have the opinion that we are their visiting guests even though they have atrocious manners with little or no sense of respect or responsibility towards human things and ways and we should therefore always try to prevent harm coming unto them as they just do not know better when they are around humans. Enjoy your stay .

As for your Q's When I visited BnD during June 2011 the Vivid monkeys was still a problem as some of the member said make sure your food is locked away and doors are closed .

Tip get yourself a Rubber snake place it somewhere on the patio believe me they wont come close and make sure to move it so every often they are clever buggers

As for the next question yes there is a viewing room at the restaurant sure they can catch up the highlights at night

As for me and the SO the car radio doesn't : even get switched on when we go into the park

Hi, Guys

Just got back from my trip to Kruger. We stayed at Berg en Dal & Pretoriouskop.

We had such an amazing time. We saw all of the the Big Five as well as the Wild Dogs & Hyhena

The monkeys did not give us a problem at BnD in fact i did'nt see any monkeys at the camp.
Saw monkeys at Pretorious but luckily they did'nt give us any problems

Kruger has really changed us and we sure to be back SOON!!

I have used Melalane gate on my past 2 trips to KNP for the drive up to Skukuza and back. I have always found that road productive.
This friend of mine though is a regular in the KNP, and he says the last time he spent some time in that area and the viewing was sparse.
I have booked for 4 days there in December and am concerned that it may be a bit slow.

I am looking at flights into Nelspruit and only might be able to land at 5.50, this meaning I will miss gate closing time. Duques informed me that I could arrive late for Berg en Dal if entering through Malelane Gate. Whilst not ideal, its my only option. Anyone know of the costs involved?

As long as you let the camp/gate know of your late arrival, and can get to the gate before 9pm you should be OK. I think the cost is R200 for an escort at the moment, but confirm that when you arrange the escort.

Not many choices. Take the S110 and visit Matjulu waterhole, come back and take the S120 Steilberg road. Lots of beautiful views from the S120. If you have time, proceed on the H3, turn right on the S118, S119 and come back via the S114. But, like all roads, take it slowly, or as they say in Swahili, 'pole pole'
