S100
All the rest are SUPER

Some days are diamonds some days are dust! We have seen hardly anything on some days, but lion & AWC on another, with cheetah & lion yet another and others with just lion. Saw my first carmine bee eater on the S100!

Peter.

I would hve preferred 4 nights at Balule. Problem is, no availability for the time frame that we want to go. :(

Four nights at Satara makes the most sense and there is plenty availability which means the camp should be reasonably quiet. Letaba is probably the best place to go where I can get availability, but the distance is just a little too far for a four night stay.

Before my last trip, we discussed the Sweni River road from the S36. Seems to be a road I want to try out and Satara is the most logical place to do it from.

Added to all this, we are taking friends who have never been north of Tshokwane, so it will be a new experience for them.

Most importantly, I like the S100.

From Satara, I can go to N'wanetsi and the Sweni brid hide as well. Many options from Satara.

Conservation is not an option.
It's imperative.

Leave KNP alone. Go build a hotel someplace else. Reserves are for the preservation of wildlife.

Think Pink. ..

Agreed on, but you can swing wide and take the H9 - H14 route which is quite good.
cheetah2111 wrote:2. Mopani - Shingwezi tar road!

The S50 is a fabulous road, especially if you are a birder.
cheetah2111 wrote:3. Letaba - Palaborwa tar road!

Oops, I just pointed that one out. But cheetah are seen very often on that road.
cheetah2111 wrote:4. S131 (dirt road going West of Letaba)

Yup, nothing there! Well, I have never been lucky there at least.
cheetah2111 wrote:5. S140 (Dirt road going from the H7 to Talamati)

You mean the S145? Down from Orpen? THE road to take if you want to see Sable.

My worst roads, aside from the S131, are the S90 and the S100. I know some people see fantastic things there, I see gravel, grass and some impalas and zebras.
The H5 (next to the old Selati rail route) has never been friendly to me, and aside from a python swimming next to the car the S47 (west of Letaba) has not shown me anything.

worst roads in the kruger although better than any other roads in SA are;

1. H1-1
2. H4-1
3. H10
4. S100 (Too many cars, too many idiots, not the true kruger experience, cars driving off road all the time) Puke in my mouth kind of stuff.
5. Letaba to Phalaborwa road.

Most underrated roads in the park

1. S140 - S145 (local wild dog packs, non-shy servals, black rhino, sable galore)
2. S90 Balule to Bangu (Beautiful area)
3. S143 - S50 (Best non Satara lion area)
4. S60 - (Punda Maria area)
5. S52 (Red Rocks)

Best Roads

All roads that lead to the Kruger Park.

I agree with 4 of the 5, but the S140, which becomes the S145, cooks for sable and wild dogs. For me I would add the H14, it's always sucked for me, but the entire Letaba area sucks for me.

 I agree the areas north of Letaba are not good for sightings rather visit the South :eviltreath: . I wish someone with authority could settle the dispute which one of the northern or southern Kruger are the best and declare the Northern Kruger the supreme best

Mmmm, interesting. :hmz:

I love the H4-1 out of holidays. In holidays, its a nightmare.

I have yet to be captivated by the road between Letaba and Mopani.

S94 and S46, gravel roads close to Olifants in winter. I would like to try them in summer.

The S60, close to Punda can be a bit disappointing... and bumpy.

Mopani to the R52 turn off. Once you hit that turn off, it gets a lot more interesting. Maybe the fact that my last drive was in a heavy dust storm also leaves me feeling completely uninspired.

2. S146. Stapelkopdam Road until one reaches the dam.
3. S131
4. H1-5, Letaba to Olifants
5. S37, Trichardt Road

But, I will try them again when in the vicinity
