Joao wrote:Why is it that not many people drive this road. Is it because they are either going to Tshokwane or leaving Tshokwane from Skukuza or Satara. In my opinion it is more the regular visitors who drive this raod. The ones who are trying to ascape the hectic traffic on the H1. I had a fantastic lion sighting at Jones dam many moons ago. Not realy much since then.

i think the only ppl driving the road is the ls/skuks - orpen guests

The ones who want to take the shortest possible route from Skukuza to Orpen. I love the two picnic spots. So quite and relaxing.

The S36 has always been fruitful on the two occasions that we have driven it. On both occasions spotted Sable - once a lone bull at Muzandzeni while having breakfast and once a small herd at Mondzweni who were rightfully skittish as a pride of Lion were also surveying the scene at the time! Will definitely be doing the route again on our up an coming trip

We drove the northern section of this road today to as far as the Sweni road and I can report it is in the best condition we have ever seen it in.

A very difficult question to answer Div, as it would depend on the speed you traveled at plus stoppages for sightings etc.
You could also drive along the S149 & 145 past Talamati or go further along the H7 and turn off onto the S36 right at the top, so lots of variables.

The area above and below the H7 is one of the best in KNP in my opinion.

That's why we Tamboti up, and then drive in those areas.
ITs a great place. You see everything from blackies to square lips, to sable, to painted dogs, to the big 5, as well as all the usual suspects. Its one of the areas in KNP where you just about see everything. And on many days you probably see them all.

All the picnic spots in that area are sufficiently remote to be quiet, bar timbavati. They are also well kept.

Just don't tell anyone.
