Hi all :D

If i my add my 2 cents I find the s3 a bit quiet in the morning, but better in the late afternoon. I would do both roads (s3 and the s114 renosterkoppies road) time permitting..

Thanks Monne. Done deal.

I know it could all be different when I go there,(animals seem to go into immediate hibernation as soon as I leave JHB) but will definitely give the reverse drive a try. Start out early and do Renosterkoppies first. Then do the Nappi road and up the S3 around back to Skuks, just in time for a late afternoon visit to Lake Panic.

In 2000 (August) we saw a pack of doggies on the Nappi road in the late afternoon. The one and Only time I have ever seen them at KNP.

Back to your original question, Pikkie, I had only one sighting of cheetah on the S-114, but it was marvellous!

Around 1996 it was an overcast Summer morning, and I encountered a single animal some way north of Renosterkoppies Dam.

There is a stretch of Tarred surface on the S-114 there, for some reason, and the cheetah was making its way North along that.

The nice part was that there were no humans or other animals around for miles, and we reversed about 500m up a slope, and waited for the approaching cheetah!

I shall never forget the "click - clack" of the animal's claws, clearly audible, as it approached!

Saturday morning 23 February 2008 saw me taking a leasurely drive to Mapondo Dam from Berg-en-Dal camp not intending to go out hunting any of the cats. I decided to drive and should I spot something then I am lucky. Just before the mentioned junction I did spot something out of the corner of my eye, I stopped and reversed and there in the tree was my dream come true a leopard. I sat there for about ten minutes before the next vehicle arrived. So yes I would always feel that I must go back to that specific stretch of road if I am in the area.

PS I have also posted a pic of this sighting on the list of public sightings

The S114 is the best road in the South by far IMO...Just a couple of the cool sightings I have had on the Biyamiti Weir end of this road from the weir to Renosterkoppies dam

Hi everyone,

Has anyone been on the S114 between the Bume Road (S26) crossing and the Biyamiti weir recently?

Some years back I found myself in the middle of a pack of wild dogs at the T junction of S114 and S21. Many lion sightings around but missed the leopard there!! I always make time to travel that road...

Pikkie I have had some great sightings coming from the north on the S114. Definitely worth travelling, but in the end, it is all about to be at the right time at the right spot...
