Hi Guys!

Next week I'll be spending 2 nights camping at Berg-en-dal, and then I'll be moving up to Lower Sabie.
I just wanted some advice about how to get to Lower Sabie from Berg-en-dal, bearing in mind that I need to put up a tent and set up camp.

Do you recommend:
A: Leaving Berg-en-dal, exiting the park at Malelane Gate, going straight along the N4, and re-entering at Croc Bridge and heading straight up the H4-2;

B: Leaving berg-en-dal and going up to the H4-2 via the S25 along the Crocodile River; or

C: Heading right up the H3 past Afsaal, turning right onto the S112 and then onto the S21, where I'll come out on the H4-1.

I'd really appreciate any advice, and alternative routes, even.

Kind Regards,
John

Hi John

It is a tough one, as I am sure you are asking because you want to try and get the best site available at Lower Sabie.

Last September I was staying at Malelane and wanted to get to Croc Bridge as early as possible to get a good site. I wasn't camping at Malelane though so I didn't have to pack up. We left just after gate opening which was also 6am and got to CB just before 9ish.

I would definitely use the s25 route because there are no Perimeter sites at LS and sites are basically demarcated.

I tend to agree with Spargish. I find this a very productive road and given the popularity of the area, pretty free of traffic.

What would the best gravel route be from CB to P/Kop?
S25 via Gardenia to Afsaal?
H5, S108,, S26, H3 to Afsaal?
H5, S23, S113 to Afsaal?
We enjoy all animals - big or small, walking or flying :D

Hi there Mags,

I like to include the Stevenson Hamilton memorial and Renoster koppies. It takes a little longer, but it makes my trip complete. If I can, I go to say "thank you" to the good man who has done so much.

I would consider the S25, S119, S114 up to Biyamiti Weir and then the S26 Biyamiti loop, S113 over to the H3. From that point I'd take the H3 north and then the H1-1. But you could go south on the H3 to Asfaal for a stop, then either head back up the H3 to the H1-1 or take the Voortrekker Road to Pretoriuskop.

Thank you all for the suggestions and especially Bush Baptist for confirming the S25, pity I saw Skywalker's message too late. What MANY wonderful sightings we had traveling the S25. This includes a stunning, stunning sighting of the "Biyamiti" leopard!! with kill. This sight/face will remain in our minds for a while.

We also saw so many Raptors - very special.

The Pretoriuskop area was very disappointing. Didn't even see Impala's.

Still was great just to chill in the park......

Great day to you all

I need a bit of advice

Is it possible to drive from Letaba to Lower Sabie in one day? (I travel very slowly in the park :cam: ) Would it be better to stick to the H 1-5, H 1-4, H 1-3 and H10 or will there be enough time to go on some of the gravel roads? :hmz:

Hi RemiE
We drove from Tsendze to Lower Sabie, unfortunately only the tar as you said but we drove 30-40km/h and reached LS by 14:00 so you can drive dirt roads :D

Agree with Heksie :)
Last month we did Skukuza to Letaba (which is almost the same distance as Letaba-LS) and we got there at 14:30.

Thank you for the confirmation Heksie and cheetah2111 :gflower:
Heksie I will see how the slow traveling on the tar goes and then closer to LS do a bit on the dirt roads around Molondozi, but it will be weather dependant.
cheetah2111 good to know you where there 30min after check in time. In that case we might be in time for a quick afternoon nap before the afternoon drive
