More Olifants photos. Strange, I only now realize that we never take photos of the camp or our units. Normally take a photo of each other in the camp – and unfortunately also not always the best quality {So Bert, please forgive, SO is in the photo again. }

From the left, you see # 9 (is a BBD2V), and then # 8 & # 7 (BD2V).
A piece of # 10 (BBD2V) is visible at the back, between # 8 and # 7.



We, for the first time, stayed in # 1 (BD2V). This unit pleasantly surprised me. Apart from the fact that it has beautifully been revamped the unit also has a great view. I thought the fact that it is right next to the restaurant, will make it noisy. But the sound from the river drowns all the other noise. The unit is also actually quite private: there is a screen between you and the restaurant, and your veranda faces away from the neighbouring unit.

It was very, very misty the day we left the Park. Right from Balule down to Satara where it started to burn up. Only the second time I have seen such mist in the Park.

You beat me to it, Katja Isn't that just a great little spot? I think it's off the S44, but it just might be a bit further along, on the S93, between Olifants and Letaba.

Seems I am the only one looking at Olifants from a different perspective.

Although the camp and view is stunning, I miss the intimacy of being closer to animals on the other side of the fence (the river is so far below) and the only sound I hear at night (I usually go in summer) is the river.

Has anybody heard other nightsounds in summer when the river is flowing strong?

As far as I know the bungalows 1-8 belong to the category BD2V. 9-13 belong to the category BBD2V (best river view). I don't know about NG2V.

Apart from the night sounds its the best place in Kruger imo
to view the Black Eagle (have been lucky to see them there) and Fisheagle soaring past at eye level. This while sitting on your bum with a cold one in your hand

In june we could see a group of lions hunting impies, to the right in the bend. That's a great way to see them hunting, as you have the birdseye view! We could see the circling and the chase. Certainly adds spice to sitting on the deck.

(The hunt was not succesfull.)

Could you perhaps remember what month it was? Maybe I only heard water as I've been there only 3 times the past couple of years, each time for a week directly after heavy rain.

Christo, I was at Olifants this past April (28,29,30) and May (12,13,14,15) and enjoyed the sounds of the water, the hippo serendade throughout the day as well as morning and evening, and lots of birdsong and insects as well. While there was plenty of water in the river, and the sound of the water was a constant, it did not drown out the other sounds for me — all a part of the wonderful aural landscape at Olifants!

We were there in November of 2003. The first two days we were there, it was so dry that the Olifants "river" was nothing but a series of pools and puddles with huge herds of ellies wandering from one to the next, and hippos very crowded into some of the larger pools. The second night we were there it poured all night, and on our third morning we awoke to a raging river! We could not believe our eyes, it was so transformed! I think the dates we were there were November 26, 27, 28 of 2003.

Christo, we have visited Olifants in all seasons. You do always hear the river, but if there are lions or hyenas close to camp, down at the river, you do still hear them, even if the river is full. I have to admit that you do not hear the owls at night, but on the other hand, you also do not hear your noisy neighbours.

@Bushbabies …Might not hear them, but once had one that came to sit on the edge of our veranda while we were eating. It was very strange….. he looked at us a few seconds, almost as though he was in shock to find us on the veranda, and quickly disappear again.

does anybody know where the NG2U bungalows are located , what differnece with the NG2V? thanks
