Jen, I just mailed/phoned the various camps and put in my request.
With Letaba we called in and did the request at reception while on our way up North.
We got good locations at all the camps I did a request, but then again the park was really very quiet during our visit.

Thanks

It looks as though it has an "enclosed" verandah, with mesh screens to keep out insects (and monkeys?) and let the air in.
We've booked something similar-looking at Skukuza. Hope it's not too stuffy

We had 2 rondavels last year at Letaba. There is an inner meshed area with the kitchen area outside of the bedroom/bathroom area.
Outside the door in a smallish concreted area to sit by the braai or acres of grass depending upon the mossies. We were lucky to be there just before the rains broke.

Hi all. We will be at Letaba 28-30 June and have booked a BG2 bungalow. Are they ok? Which is a recommended one with a good view?
Thanks

Hi McShawu,
have a look at This Map and you can get an idea of where the various chalets are positioned.

Hi Elsa,
Thanks, I will do. Can you recommend ant BG2?

Hi McShawu, unfortunately I can't really say with any great certainty what those are like as we stayed in a BD3, # 29, which on the map is in the top left hand corner.
It had a kitchen/bathroom and is a 3 sleeper.
Altho the chalet itself was a little "tired" the view was great from there.

But, if your chalet itself doesn't have a good view, one can easily take a walk to the benches in front of the restaurant and sit there for a while.

Hi
Letaba camp has such a big variety of accommodation types! Although the units that show a perimeter should have a view, you will notice that they are built in a half moon. This means that there are no units infront of you, but you are quite far from the fence.

The BG2 units have no view, so it is built in a circle where you have other units 'in front' of you - and no kitchenette.
The BG3U units are in the circles that have no units infornt of you, but some of them have the outside kitchen area inclosed with the mesh - others have open stoeps.
If you want the 'better' BG3U units, request to be in circle D.

I personally (if the budget allows it) prefer the Guest Cottages FQ6. They have a great view, big braai area and you have much more privacy and space.

Hi Letaba Regulars

We have a night booked in a safari tent CTT4 in August, and looking forward to it. Just wanted to check if anyone knows where in the camp the 4-bed safari tents are? The Letaba map shows only the 2-bed safari tents. Would the 4 bed tents be in between the 2 bed or maybe in the camping area?

Thanks!

Hi Jo,

The 4 bed Safari tents are in front of and slightly to the right of the 2 bed Tents. They are close to the camping site.

Hi
Yes the 4 bed tents are between the new pool area and the campsite. Still communal bathrooms and kitchen. It is a pity they did not build them like the ones in Punda with own bathroom and kitchen. It would have been a nice change for Letaba camp.

Anyway, enjoy!

Hi Jo,

I was there last week and I especially went to look at them.

They are new, modern and I will stay in them next time.

About a week before you go, contact David at the camp and ask for any of nos 4 - 8, they are the ones on the fence.

Hi guys

Have stayed in safari tents 12 and 9 at Letaba but will be camping
there in July for the first time  .Is it possible to drive up to
Shingwedzi and back in one day? I am keeping the stoppages for
sightings in mind but think it is just too far for a day...... :hmz:

Hi KNP-Junkee,

Letaba to Shingwedzi is 108km on the tar road - traveling at an average speed of 40km per hour the journey should take you approx. 3.5 hours - that is one way and without stops for sightings etc.
Remember in July the gates open at 06H00 and close at 17H30.
It can be done but you won't have much time to explore Shingwedzi camp and enjoy possible sightings on the way.
Whatever you decide - have a great time and good luck!

Hi KNP-junkee
The drive is only 108km long.I would say it is possible. And just keep in mind it is not the most exiting road in the park so I would think it should be possible quite easily. It wont take you more that 3.5hours there and the same back.So you can go there and have a nice breakfast at the beautiful Mopani and have a lovely lunch at Shingwedzi without worry's. :D
