Hi Everyone

The lookout point was opened again on the 3rd but quickly closed this morning when one of our rangers saw the leopard again, this time with an impala carcass.

Kind regards
KNP Spokesman

We were at this lookout point in January just after Skukuza's gates opened. What a sunrise! Were lucky enough to have had a kudu ram as company. What an experience. Also saw a solitary buffalo below.
Can't get the place out of my mind since then.

Hi all
This particular koppie has a very special place in my heart: My SO & I got married in Skukuza on 16 December 2006 and our guests were taken out on game drive vehicles to Mathekenyane for sundowners.
We also had the lone kudu bull at the bottom of the rocks - unfortunately no other uninvited guests, although wild dogs would have been nice!
Etched into my memory is this unforgettable afternoon: It was cloudy as we arrived and then, as if magic, the sun broke through just as it set over the horison bathing everybody in its golden glow....
We visited "our" spot over easter weekend when we were in KNP to walk the Metsi-Metsi & no other visit will ever be complete without a quiet moment at this lookout.

Was there in 1st week of Aug.04-06 in Skukuza.
An absolutely magical place. Just being there is reward enough.
The solitude, silence & breathtaking panoramics are just awesome. A MUST VISIT !!!

To add to the magic black rhino was seen at the base & well as lions roaring in the distance. Soon enough the lion were seen near "renosterkoppies dam".

There were a few questions earlier as to why I posted this particular thread which incidentally has since had the title changed. It used be be titled, "Location of a specific hill top in Kruger Park" which I labouriously explained in a large amount of detail how I recalled it from memory.

The reason I needed to know where it was, was because I wanted to propose to my Fiance at the top of that hill.

Luckily for me, one of the virtual rangers new what I was talking about and a good friend of mine Chris H also found the spot in his GPS software and google earth after I drew a picture of how I thought it would look from the air.

I did infact take my then girlfriend to the spot on the 23rd of Feb 2007 and I proposed to her there. We then spent an hour or so sipping champagne on the hilltop before heading to Lower Sabie.

We shall be returning to the spot on on our honeymoon as we will be spending a few days in the park before continuing onto the rest of our destinations.

It is indeed a special place to many.

Been there at least 5 times
but best to visit in the early hours before 09.00
Air still crisp and clear
You can even see the Drakensberg clearly then

and we can't even do that any longer due to the alcohol restrictions so you may as well do as Bert suggests!

I'm not allowed to get out at Granokop

My mom had a dream about 20 years ago that I was attacked by a leopard on the koppie and she made me promise that I would NEVER get out there... EVER!!

Haven't broken my promise yet!! :naughty:

PS: I am allowed to get out anywhere else that is legal to do so... guess the leopards won't like the taste of me anywhere else!!

MOTHERS!!!! :wall: :wall:

On the night ride there a good few years ago, the guide told us, while we were relaxing outside the vehicle, that on another occasion, while the ppl were out of the vehicle a pack of wild dogs suddenly appeared, and sniffed at ppl while he was groping to load his rifle, and they disappeared as swiftly as they had arrived.

Listen to your mum Nungu :naughty:

Oh No! I thought the animals had all been told it was out of bounds for them up there!
Will have to be more careful next time I wander around. 8)
