It was such a densely vegetated road in any case so sure it would not take much for it to become overgrown.
Hopefully it will be cleared somewhat when they do finally open it again.

Agreed - it would be sad to see this road closed . Have good memories of lions bringing down a wildebeest in the middle of the road a couple of kms before Vutomi dam . For me Vutomi dam was the best waterhole for game in the entire park . What a pity it is not being built . In winter months there was a continuous flow of traffic to that dam , large herds of elephant , buffs , and often lion prides in attendance .

I do agree with you.
It was a very beautiful road and also was Vutomi dam..... but for some reason
they close all those large waterholes.
Lugmag was also dry when we were in Kruger last September.....
It is sad to see all those waterholes being closed.
I wonder when when they print new maps....

@ Bucky I am sure I read somewhere where it was said that Vutomi dam is now permanently closed.
Will try and find it.

Has the S33 been reopened ?

We have asked Lesego to find out for us!

Any chance for the public to appeal this particular decision, It would be really sad to see quite possibly one of
the most beautifull spots in the park get closed down.
I certainly hope that SANparks starts opening up roads to some of the natural pans and dams that are out there to make up for reducing so many "pull off" type areas, where you can stop and relax.

Agreed

Some of the dams and waterholes that have been closed are on roads that will almost certainly be unproductive.
Give us some new ones please. Also the natural pans (like Leeupan) etc attract birds.

Any further news on the future of the S33 (Vutomi Road)?

I passed the turn-off from the H1-3 on Saturday 23 March and noticed that the road is totally overgrown with natural vegetation - giving the impression it was a road.

We have sent a reminder to Lesego.
I also noticed how overgrown the road had become when we passed it in Feb.

You suggested vutomi to us and boy was that a good tip.

We do understand why, but we are so, so sad to lose it.

Trust you to get to the heart of the matter though.

This sounds to me like the start of a, “holding to account” thread, after all SP have sort of promised to do this!

Better give them a chance to deal with this year’s flood damage first though, sounds like a pretty good job is being done so far.

But let’s not forget to remind them from time to time.
