Not an educated comment but one which I make sense of right now, is that animal movement (migration) is restricted to the size of the reserve. So then supplementary sources of water (maybe food as well?) needs to be provided.

Has anyone traveled this road since it reopened? Is it as productive now that it doesn't have a dam?

At the moment it is closed as are most of the sand roads in the area due to the heavy rains of late.
