Klopperfontein is named after Hans Klopper, a hunter from Louis Trichardt (town) who often camped near this spring in the beginning of the last century.

There is also a concrete weir and two boreholes in this area.

Said to be a spot to find Pygmy goose. Bruce Bryden once found an injured elephant here. It had tripped a landmine across the border somewhere and some parts of it was blown to shreds by shrapnel. Bruce had to destroy the suffering animal there and then.

A paradise for birds - saw my first fish eagle there, lots of ellies , buff ect. OR just the right place to sit and relax with a sundowner, although you have to time it right to reach camp in time

I recall many magical moments during visits to Kruger. Some of them can be attributed to really spectacular sightings or rare animals/birds being spotted. But the best ones have been those occasions where you were the only vehicle (windows winded down), parked at a place where no unnatural sounds interfere with the beauty of your surroundings - and just absorbing the tranquility of the African bush.

One such a moment was on 13 May 2006 when we visited Klopperfontein for the first time (and the only time up till now). There was no spectacular game around (as a matter of fact we have seen very little that morning since leaving Punda Maria) but an absolutely windless morning greeted us at Klopperfontein. The water looked like a mirror with all surrounding trees, shrubs and riverain birds reflecting inimitably - seeing a perfect dual image of everything around the water.

Klopperfontein made such an impression on me that when I think of Kruger ever since - this is the picture that comes to my mind.

You should be able to ... it's about a 68km drive to Klopperfontein from Shingwedzi. Provided you stick to the main road and don't get to see a lot you should make.

Kloppers can easily be reached from Shing, without any problem what so ever. we do it everytime we are there. We sit there for a while and then push through to Pafuri for lunch.

Once we spent an hour or so with an ellie on the edge of the "cark park" whilst he wet his whistle.

definitely worth a few hours ...

As I stated on the "Where, with animals" thread, this must be the common watering point in the Park where one has the chance to see the graetest variety of mammals.

Really a great spot!
