I have been watching this thread, in silence.

I have heard only good about Tzendze, so..... when my plans for Mapungubwe fell through, I transferred my booking.

Finally, another tick off my bucket list. I will be in Tzendze from 28th to 31st January. Leaving on New years day. I could not think of a better place to start a new year.

Excellent MM!
I am yet to stay in Tzenze too! You can give me a good perspective as a first time visitor :D

Thanks super-mongoose, the best time for birding, I will make sure to meet one of my friend at Mopani to ask him,
he's a guide.
I will phone him today, and I will comeback to you S-M, but here at the camp we have the Owls, scops, Giant Eagle owl, white face, pearl-spotted owlet and barred owls, also African grey hornbill, yellow and red billed hornbill, Golden-tailed woodpecker, wood-hoopoe.
they are nesting now, so many in the camp, but I will make sure to meet one of the guide at Mopani rest camp.

I did call Amos he's on leave, he said end of October, he said woodland kingfisher first, they will started to call, and the rest of the other birds will be follow.

Good morning Rodgers

We will be staying at Tsendze on the 25th and 26th of September so not long now. I will have two friends from England with me who has never been in Africa nevermind the bush. My parents who live in Limpopo will also be there. We have booked campsite 3.

What is the bird life like at the moment? And do you hear the lions roaring often at night? And is the camp quite busy this time of the year?

Looking forward to meeting you and Elina next week!

How big would you say that barred owl is??

Well together with our neighbours at Tsendze,
their young lad spotted this little bird and we all
marvelled at it's behaviour, no further than 3m's
away!

It stands no higher than 7" at most 8 and frolics
about in vegetation maybe 1,5 metre high, hunting.

I'ts a tiny little owl!! Heh ehe...

Camp site 3 is lovely. It is not far from the gate but private and right on the fence if I remember correctly. You will have a wonderful time. Enjoy!

Most of you who are active on this thread already love Tsendze, and it's not hard to see why. It really is the nicest campsite in the park, for so many reasons. We had another really successful visit last month. Watching Rodgers and Elina worry whenever people who are booked in to one of 'their' sites don't return to camp by closing time, it occurred to me to put out a request here. If you get side-tracked, or decide to visit friends at Phalaborwa, or don't intend to return one night for whatever reason, PLEASE let Rodgers&Elina - or even Mopani reception - know. You've no idea the worry you will save them. Most camps won't know if you're back or not, but at Tsendze the staff check that all their chickens are back in the hok. If they're not, they worry that you may be stranded somewhere. That's something special and we should cherish it.

For 12 of the reasons I love Tsendze see http://roxannereid.weebly.com/1/post/20 ... -tops.html . You can add your own reasons to the list too, if you like.

Really lovely post. :gflower:

A little story that left me redface at Tsendze.
My husband and I visited last year (in winter) , but to save costs we traveled with family but could not stay the whole week, to travel back to Pretoria by bus.
After a special request (with the section ranger) to leave the camp at 5h30 we would travel to Phalaborwa to take the bus.

Rodger said he would not be there as he would be on a morning walk, but that he would leave the gate open.

We were at the gate at 5h20 waiting for Rodger.
We waited and waited. I was already stressed about this bus trip.
No Rodger, we waited. eventually at 06h45 other cars arrived.
We told them our story.
Some guy walked to the gate and pushed it open.

Rodger just left it closed to fool the animals.
Needless to say we missed our bus.
We traveled behind the bus all the way to Gravelotte.
There we could show the bus driver that we needed him to stop.
