The data line to Satara is down at the moment. Satara's operational tasks (excluding webcam) (check-ins, etc) are running via satellite backup to ensure our guests can at least check in and out, etc.

Orpen has connectivity issues as well. Network router has been replaced but webcam is still down. Operations (e.g. bookings, checkins/outs) are online though!

Let's hope the telecoms company sorts it out!

In the meantime, enjoy Addo and Nossob!

This is what had to be replaced! The day-night switch was broken and caused leakage on the electrical system which kept on tripping...

It was sorted it out today! (Thanks Albert (Satara electrician) and Clifford (IT Technician from Skukuza) for fixing that!)

Thanks for your patience! Happy camming!

Orpen's data line is down again ..so Orpen webcam is down again as well.. The normal operations at Orpen is done via satellite at the moment (excluding the webcam  )

Finally! Orpen is back online again! Thanks for you patience!

The technical glitch has been fixed. There was a problem with the wireless card on the camera itself which was resolved this morning (thanks to Theuns from our IT Outsource company as well as our rangers guarding him while working on the webcam)!

Happy viewing!

Apologies for the Addo webcam being static with one view at the moment. I am busy trying to reprogramming the set points and the webcam tour - the operation "Rescue Gecko" caused the webcam to move physically inside the enclosure and that caused the tour and preset points to be in different views from before

At the moment it is static until all fixed again! At least the geckos are safe! :)

I am testing the motorized drives and zoom (PTZ) remotely but are tied up with other commitments until Friday..but will try in between to fix!

Enjoy the single view for now!

Dear Cammers (Addo cammers especially)

Please note that we are busy upgrading the data comms line to Addo Rest Camp (for all data comms to the Addo Rest Camp) and this will cause downtime on the Addo Webcam today from around 10:00-11:30.

Please bear with us during this line upgrade!

Thanks for your patience!

Data communication link to Addo Rest Camp upgraded successfully! All back online again including the Addo Webcam! Thanks for your patience!

Happy camming!

Has 23H00 changed to 22H00 for Nossob then? Musta changed while I was virtually inactive for a while. Pity...
Don't think so. The last posts after 10 pm I can remember were in April this year.

Interesting though that in KTP accomm for Nossob camp it's stated that the generator is down between 9.30 pm and 5.00 am. I can't remember the cam being up by then again. Nor can I remember it from my trip last month. It was actually more like 5.30 in the mornings although it is stated somewhere else that electricity is up 18 hours daily. You do the maths yourself.

Dear Webcammers

Orpen & Satara Webcams temporarily taken off the air/website. Read the full topic here!

I have created a separate topic for it where feedback and progress will be given as well.

Thank you Danie for the feedback concerning the cams at Satara and Orpen.
It is understandable that the cams are offline due to the current circumstances in Kruger.
I hope they will restore everything that has been broken during the floods.

Hi Vinkie

The Orpen and Satara communication links were giving problems even before the rain and flooding in Kruger so it is not only that :hmz: . We think that the rain and weather did add to the problem but is not the main cause!

The telecoms company is busy resolving that. If the problem is at one of the high sites (repeaters), it might be a problem to get there now after the rain! We have a meeting tomorrow morning again with the telecoms service provider!

Let's hope it will be back online very soon!

Orpen Webcam's Flood Light 'adjusted' by a critter

Image
As you can see, a friendly critter (baboon/vulture/ibis/unknown) moved/tilted the flood light so that it almost shines backwards  The bad reflections you see on the images, are that from the flood light hitting the perspex dome enclosure of the webcam in stead of the water hole! :o

We apologise for that and will try and trace the culprit for disturbing your viewing pleasure when it moved/tilted the flood light  He/she might face disciplinary action by the forumites and might be sentenced to at least another 3 years or more in Kruger National Park :naughty:

I'll contact my colleagues at Orpen and ask the maintenance team to adjust the flood light again and tighten it!

During the day you will not see the difference in the picture quality but it is affecting you viewing pleasure badly after dark!

(thanks to Foxie for capturing the image when I moved the cam to see what is wrong!)

I wonder what a Monkey would do if they would see these wires :hmz:

To me it seems tempting to play with them

:) I was zooming in to check the condition of the wiring! It seems if a problem might be developing with the wiring at the flood light but at this stage all wires still look insulated and per safety standards and regulations, there is an earth leakage and circuit breakers protecting the whole installation (webcam, flood light and power supply feeding the webcam) at the installation itself (......including protecting nosy critters around with the wiring!)

Happy camming!

Dear cammers!

Please note that the Orpen Webcam will be offline from around 10:00-12:00 (SAST) today Wed 9 May 2012.

This is due to a planned upgrade on the data line to Orpen by the telecoms company. This should add more speed and relaibility to this link!

We do apologise for the downtime on the cam because of this!

Happy camming!
