I hope that the poor Impala got out of the Orpen pan and was not shot by the ranger!

The big herd of buffalo visiting the waterhole earlier, lowered the water level in the waterhole a lot causing the impala to fall in and it could not get out.

The Section Ranger was called in to evaluate the situation. The impala got out by itself without any human intervention but it has sadly broken its leg. The Section Ranger then decided to euthanise the impala as it would not have recovered.

The carcass was left to the vultures (seen on the webcam).

Yes DB, the water is topped up automatically (ball valve system). The buffalo drank so much water that the water supply could not keep up with the demand! The ball valve system keeps the water hole topped up all the time!

Just wondering - are Orpen and Satara fenced camps? What about Nossob? Where are the hides in relation to the camp (i.e. inside or outside the fence?)

Scot, all the camps you refer to are fenced camps (Satara, Orpen and Nossob). The webcam at Nossob is at the hide which is outside the camp but there is a fenced walkway that takes you safely to the hide.

At both Satara and Orpen the webcams are not at a hide but outside the camp at a waterhole. The webcam is mounted on a structure at the waterhole outside the camp.

At Satara the webcam is about 40m outside the south-eastern fence around the camp (south-eastern side of Satara), on the restaurant/cafeteria side of the camp.

At Orpen the webcam is about 50m from the fence on the eastern side of Orpen.

All 3 webcams are in the bush and not fenced at all. All 3 webcams are visible to our physical guests at all three camps from the safety of a hide (Nossob) or with a fence (electrified) between our guests and the waterhole/webcam.
