Just letting you know that it is not your eyes playing tricks on you, the tree on the other side of the waterhole did change from position thanks to a nice tusker at about 14hoo this afternoon!

A warm welcome Travelling T and de Graaf!

You joined us on a day which will change Satara cam forever! Amazing that something which takes decades to grow, is destroyed in a matter of seconds

Gosh - a real landmark for the cammers has gone

Did the ellie eat the bark or roots or did he just get out of bed on the wrong side this morn and was tired of having to go around the tree :hmz:

The angle of the web cam is different. Don't think the tree has moved :D

 There you have it ... elephant in action transforming their environment.

This should actually make a good shot for the thread where we chronicle the vegetation changes at the cams!

Looks like one of the stems may recover and carry on growing. See some close up shots on satara cam today. I do hope so, Impalas used to stand in the shade on hot days, That ellie has a bad attitude!

HI,
While looking at the water hole at Satara yesterday, I noticed that the tree at the back was bent and just knew it was an ellie.
Had to go to the highlights to see what happened. Amazing! Caught red handed. The waterhole will never be the same. What a privelage to see it happen. Seen this a few times in KNP and shocked to see that after pushing down a beautifull tree they loose interest and walk away from their distruction without even tasting the tree
