Yes, you may recall a few years ago someone submitted a video to 50/50 showing this display and it was the first time in birding history someone recorded this behaviour. It was the overall winner for that year.

We, well my SO, Hawk, is fascinated by the male's display when he flies straight up and then drops directly to the ground, saving himself from hitting the earth at the last minute. So, when we saw a male on the side of the road in November last year snapping his beak like crazy, we stopped and recorded it for a while, and to our amazement he opened his crest and then set off after his lady love. We were able to video the entire ritual - not very well though as these things seem to happen when one least expects it. JvR looked at the video and explained to us that is was a rare sighting.

9 November 2013, approaching the high water bridge over the Olifants River, coming from Balule.

Pics taken at that sighting, starting with the man having some 'attitude'!:

Let me tell you, this chap goes to a LOT of trouble to impress his lady love!

I hope the "previously submitted video" is not going to stop you from submitting yours, DBs... What you showed me is equally impressive and worthy of being aired...

Hawk did submit it three weeks ago ... so we wait ... it will be a treat if they do screen it. Once we know, I will post it here, both if they are going to screen it, and then a copy of the video :D

I'll be holding thumbs really HARD that the clip makes it past the selection process and gets a screening!

Good luck to you both, Deebs and Hawk.
