Hi Carolynn
In Marloth they are normally still around till almost the end of April....but they are less “talkative” from middle April...

@woodlin...in January my SO actually saw one at his office in Hillcrest...so it seems they do visit that part of PTA 8)

Thanks to all for info. Dotdan, how can you possibly not notice them, they are so vocal they force you to listen! (Yeh, I know, must be female....) Love the bird, love the call!

It is like a woman nagging....you know they are there....but you just don't notice it anymore. :twisted: :lol:

Yes, I am pleased to say we did! Not as much as in Januaray, but they were definately still there and more of them in the Satara area than down south.

We were watching a woodland kingfisher 'dancing' in a tree while listening to their beautiful call. :wink:

Hi ndloti,

"Prime Origins guide to best birding in Kruger" has the average arrival date of the woodies as 11 Nov, and earliest arrival date as 3 Nov in 1978/86/89.

Yes we heard one very early(05h00) a week ago, but not since then, just passing through maybe? We are in the Northern parts of Pretoria next to Roodeplaat dam.

They are all over in the Waterberg, where I was on Monday. They had arrived a week earlier, they said, which is about their normal arrival date.

We hear them daily in Phalaborwa, here is one I photoraphed this morning near Letaba.
