I took this series of pics of a Pied Kingfisher regurgitating a pellet in Kruger in June and as not everyone reads TRs I thought they might be of interest here. They were taken at the Biyamiti Weir.

I didn't know they actually expelled pellets, maybe too painful to expel the other way!

Just found this about them
"Adults will regurgitate three to four pellets of undigested bones per day, but hatchlings will digest most of the bones and regurgitate only one pellet per day, absorbing more calcium to support their own bone growth."

Great pics Anne-Marie! My Pied Kingfisher also continued fishing straight after regurgitating the pellet.
