Good evening from Belgium,

I've a question about a raptor identification. I've searched in the sasol and in the Roberts, not easy to find an answer.

The views were shooted in March 2013 (05/032013), yes, a long time ago, indeed!
Where? We stayed in Punda Maria, Shingwedzi was out after the terrible flood. Those views were taken near Klopperfontein. First I thought about an African Fish Eagle, but, today, when I review the pictures, I'm not happy with my old identification and I've no idea of this bird, maybe a sub adult of… Can You help me?
Not a young African Fisheagle, I Think, because … for me, to white on the breast and the belly.

Many Thanks and Best Regards (sorry for my poor english language)

Hi Alex

You are correct that it is not a Fish eagle.

It is an immature Martial eagle.

Many Thanks, Imberbe, I thought that the throat and the upper part of the breast was dark brown, error for me, I've just seen p. 101 (The Larger illustrated guide to BIRDS of Southern Africa, second edition, 2005) the draw about immature. You are right, Thank You.

Alex
