Also last year at Satara, I found a very puzzled hubby outside the tent. He told me he was sure he'd just seen a parrot of some sort. Sure enough a female was flying around with 2 babies badgering her for food. Also a first for me - had to grab the birdguide first to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. That was in the campsite.

I have a pic of one I took in Satara which I will have to scan in and will post later. It was amazing to see it eat the seeds out of the pods (no idea what the tree was called but it had long thin pods). They way the bird opened the pod and then got to the seeds was incredible!

Was told to look out for them in P-kop. Saw none. On the last day I saw 2 between Afsaal and BnD in a tree. We heard many calling whilst walking in BnD area.

Freda and myself saw brown-headed parrots at Lower Sabie, in the trees near the river.

GP, Last year June at Satara - camping, we also saw the parrot with the little ones screeching after her. We thought that she was chasing them away and they were following her did not know that she was feeding them
Now I understand their behaviour

When we camp there we drive in a straight line towards the fence and take a spot slightly to your right directly opposite the "t-junction". They were in the large tree on your left and of course in every tree close-by as they chased her round!

The power of the yellow ribbon!!!! Petrus alerted me to them when we chatted at Babalala and it took me a while but we got a definite spot on the Mahonie loop around Punda. A nice one for the life list.

Yes a parrot does seem unusual in KNP but they are common and widespread. If you learn their call from tape or CD you will see them all over because the are very vocal and move in groups too.
One of the pods I know they eat a lot of seeds from are the Erythrinas (Coral tree's). The seeds are red and black, softish, fleshy and attractive. The also eat sycamore figs but not as much as the green pigeons do.

Saw them there again! There was a group near the D circle. They are so interesting to watch and SO beautiful!!

Photographed this Brownheaded Parrot at Lower Sabie in September.

Seen these guys all over the park, Pretoriouskop, Lower Sabie, Afsaal and Skuks having produced the most sightings!! Getting photos of them however, doesnt seem to be so easy

Seen in Satara, but they are all over the place!

I was at lower sabie on the 14th of march and went for a morning walk and i kept hearing the parrots but couldnt see them, once they were spotted the whole group stopped to watch the pair move around in the fever trees, we did see holes in the tree but not sure if it was their nest site.
