Accross the little dam at Abrahamskraal, in the reeds a pair of Marsh Harriers is raising some young. Judging by the amount off food being transported there, they must be growing pretty fast. This ons is just arriving, this time without food but I saw them bring rodents and small birds to the nest. Avery time a Black Harrier or Yellow-billed kite arrived, they would charge after them to chase the offending bird away.

That red knobbed coot feeding a chick is one of your best ! ( I think anyway )
I know that so much time and work goes into producing that and all the others which are so amazing.

Thank you for you kind comments once again.

Last weekend I decided to go back to Langebaan and WNP in search of the Marsh Harriers and other beauties. I ended up at Abrahamskraal on Sunday for most of the day and was fortunate to see this European Bee-Eater return after a brief showing on Saturday afternoon. It was a single bird that came late afternoon, took a bath and then went about its business of chasing insects in the bush. I will post a few images over the next few days. Enjoy.

Another interesting sight was this Black Shouldered Kite that first dive bombed a Marsh Harrier where it was sitting behind a bush and then proceeded to harass it in the air. The Harrier had to do a few fancy evasive moves in order to stay away from the aggressive kite.

This image is from the sand flats in front of the Geelbek hide in the WNP. It is of a Grey Plover as it is pulling a worm from the sand.

Another in the series of the European Bee-eater that visited Abrahamskraal. In the background you can see the Swallow in question just as Bee-eater emerged from a bath.
