Awesome pics. Thanks for posting them.

I was in the Bontebok Park this last weekend and the swallows there were awesome. Constantly swooping here and there catching insects, but too quick to get on camera unfortunately

Stunning photos...your teal looks almost artificial, since it is just so clear and perfect..like it has been polished.
Thanks so much

The long weekend has come and gone and that only meant I could get down to Langebaan and add to my bird collection. There was quite a stir in Langebaan and the birding community with the Hudsonian Godwit having been spotted at the See Berg hide. Birders from all over th ecountry arrived to get a glimpse of this rarity. I too managed to see it on Saturday afternoon and managed to get a long shot of the birds in flight. But that is not what I wanted share with you. I managed to get quite a number of nice shots during the two days. Here are a few of them. First up a Curlew Sandpiper in breeding plumage. (You should have seen my breeding plumage in the day  )
Image
This little Barn swallow kept me going, at one stage it felt like I was playing twister as I had to contort my body to keep pace with its flight pattern.
Image
Next up this common Whimbrel speeding by in the South Easter.
Image
I believe this beauty to be aCommon Greenshank. (please correct where you differ)
Image
Next up this European Swallow giving it all.
Image
I'll post again in the next few days.

Lovely photos Toureg.

I do not think you are a Siffneck member???? Perhaps some of your birds have not yet been ticked for 2010???

You have really captured these birds perfectly...they are so clear, and yet are in motion. Well done.
Thanks again.

Let me continue with the posts of the weekend's pictures. From the Geelbek hide these Common Whimbrels in flight.
Image
At the Abrahamskraal hide this Pelican which came in to land, was one of many visiting the dam on the day. Unfortunately they keep to the far right of the dam.
Image
These little Grebes were in a foul mood with many scraps breaking out. You just saw handbags flying :D
Image
Here is a black winged stilt on a fast fly-by at the Geelbek hide. There were so many birds present which made it special to see. Many of them already in their breeding plumage.
Image
This little fellow kept me busy for quite a while, but I eventually managed a few focussed shots.
