Sounds great Roelof! Kindly remember to send me the names of the participants once you have received 17 or more entries, so that we can do a fair draw again!

not sure if I was counted in Roelof's number as i said i was going to but I have submitted just now .....

and convinced offspring to have a go this pm ....

(no collusion needed as the offspring is Zoology grad
and has since complained about my speeling and punctuation)

Just one more needed maybe??

WHOO-HOOO

17 entries!!

With this I will close the challenge.

The scores were very high on the challenge with just one or two troublesome birds:

#1 Broad Tailed Warbler – 15 correct entries – the unkept big broad tail is the key feature
Image
#2 African Qualfinch - All had this one correct
Image
#3 Common Quail – All had this one correct
Image
#4 Rufous-chested Sparrowhawk – 15 correct – the yellow eye and the grey crown are two of the key features, along with the rufous chest
Image
#5 Layard’sTitbabbler – 11 correct – all grey colouring with the pale eye. Slight white throat and no rufous vent.
Image
#6 Southern Tchagra – one of the troublesome ones and 9 correct entries. The crown is similar to Brown Crowned, but the all grey wash to the breast and belly distinguishes it.
Image

#7 Juvenile Klaas’s Cuckoo and Bar-throated Apalis – most had these correct with 11 and 16 correct answers respectively
Image

#8 Crowned Cormorant – 9 correct for this sneaky photo. The red eye is the key feature here narrowing it down to either Reed Cormorant and Crowned Cormorant. The blurry water in the background helps, as this is much more ocean like than fresh water like. Reed cormorants do not occur on coastal water, only fresh water.
Image
#9 Green Capped Eremomela – 16 correct
Image
#10 – Striped Pipit -15 correct
Image
Bonus Question – African emerald Cuckoo says “Pretty Georgie”, I am very impressed that all had this correct.

Good luck for the draw

Bird ID Challenge # 5 – 2015

Well considering that a LBJ book is up for grabs and also thanks to Hilda who asked for this (by ducking out of No. 3)  I have decided on a mega LBJ Bonanza this time, but this one with a slight difference :hmz:

To make it easier for all I can tell you that all 12 of these birds are either a Cisticola or a Warbler – now you just have to see if you can figure out exactly which one is which? :wall:

Should be fairly easy – I hope  :hmz:

With some of these birds that can be almost impossible to tell apart from a photo, always just take a very careful look at the surrounding habitat/vegetation that the bird is in – that is often your best clue.

Have fun and hope it is not too tough

Thank you for the answers Imax! Congratulations on 17 entries! Enjoy India.

Kindly send me the name list, so that I can draw the winner. AddictedToBirds already has the book, but still forms part of the 17 participants, although he wants to be excluded from the draw.

Thank you for the "nightmare" you have posted TrevorC!

I'll be thrilled if I could get 5 correct, but let's see what happens! :hmz:

Thanks for the new challenge! That will keep me busy on maternity leave. Thank goodness the baby isn't here yet. Gives me a chance to get this done!
